LEGENDS OF TOMORROW "BEEBO THE GOD OF WAR" REVIEW

Season 3 Episode 9:

We are here with the mid-season finale of Legends of Tomorrow where we go back to the medieval ages and see some insane stuff in the episode which will affect the rest of the season to come. So spoilers ahead of the episode, let's recap.

The episode focuses on young, 1992, Martin Stein buying Beebo, a toy for Lilly for the holidays, however, Martin is teleported to ancient Barbarian times where he starts to run for his life after being chased by Vikings.

On the Waverider, Earth-X Leonard Snart is helping the team get over their trauma with losing Stein. The team discovers that there is a level 12 anachronism that they need to handle so they go investigate it. The team goes to ancient North America where the Vikings are attempting to conquer America. Sara spots young Martin Stein captured in a net so Jax quickly saves Stein and they rescue him and take him to the Waverider. After getting a message from Agent Sharpe the team discovers that the Vikings conquer America and they worship Beebo as their god.

The team has some awkward interactions with young Stein knowing his fate. Martin asks where his older self is, which the team tells him is home for the holidays.

Ava Sharpe enters the Waverider to offer help with fixing the anachronism, so Sara creates a plan. The team ho undercover Vikings to go retrieve Beebo. At the scene, Mick gets the team in trouble as he is seen stealing the Viking god, Beebo. Mick is taken prisoner and is about to be lit on fire, but Leonard uses his cold gun to stop the fire. Beebo is then destroyed by fire and the Vikings see that Beebo was a false god. But then Damien shows up dressed as Odin and tells the Vikings he is Odin, their true god. The Legends quickly flee the scene.

While that happened, Zari and Jax were playing video games and Zari suggest to Jax to create a loophole in the timeline to save Martin. Young Martin tells Jax he doesn't need a Beebo and he is ready to go home. Jax takes Martin in the escape pod and gives him a letter to open on the "28th of November".  Jax then parts ways with Martin.

On the Waverider, the team returns, Ava tells Sara that the Time Bureau will not deploy their forces to take down Damien, but then Ava leaves. Sara tells the team that she will stop Damien alone, but the team stops her so they all head out. Sara, Nate, and Zari fight Damien while Mick, Leonard, Jax, and Amaya fight the Vikings. Ray then shrinks and uses Beebo as a puppet to stop the Vikings from attacking. In the fight, Damien's daughter, Nora gets extremely hurt, so he pulls out his teleporting stone and is about to teleport away until Sara tags along for the ride.Sara falls into a desolate world where she hears the voice of Mallus who tells her that the world will fall under his command. Ava then rescues Sara and the team goes home saving the day with the Vikings heading back home.

On the Waveride Sara tells Ava about how she heard Mallus, and Ava tells Sara that she will be there for her whenever. Jax then travels to 1992 where he visits Martin. Jax gives a young Lilly a Beebo. Jax asks Martin what he did with the letter, and Martin tells Jax that he burnt it, because Martin wants to live his life to the fullest and not worry about his appending death. Jax and Matin part ways for good as Jax heads back to the Waverider.

Jax tells Sara that he is leaving. Sara says goodbye to Jax. As Jax packs up his things, he heads for the exit and finds the team surprising him for the last holiday meal. The team has a feat and then Jax gives a toast telling the team that they are a family to him. Sara walks Jax off to Central City 2017 where the two part ways.

The episode ends with Sara coming back on the ship where she finds John Constantine on the ship who asks Sara for a favor.

Overall, this episode of Legends of Tomorrow was a neat way to exit the first half of this season. The episode was a neat adventure and it was, of course, hilarious having the Beebo plot in the episode. We, of course, had the set up for the rest of the season with Mallus and Damien, which was great to see be developed in the episode. I am excited to learn more about Mallus and how he will go at the team for the rest of the season.

The end of the episode was an awesome teaser for the next episode. We saw John Constantine meeting Sara again and asking for her help to stop a demon. So this is Sara's debt she owns to Constantine when he bonded her soul to her body in Arrow season 4 episode 5. I am stoked that the character is in this show, as this may be a test run to see how people react to him on the team. Because if the actor is available and the audience like Constantine on the show, he could become a series regular.

Franz Drameh was spectacular in the episode as Jax. I enjoyed the journey of the character in the episode and the series as a whole, and seeing him deal with the death of Martin in the ways he did was great. There was a really neat pay off with Jax parting ways with young Martin, the last time he will see "Grey". Franz is leaving the show but it is possible he could come back for a cameo in the show, or any of the shows, later down the line, especially because he was such a beloved character and was there from the beginning of the series.

The rest of the cast in the episode was also great, we had Graeme McComb (young Martin Stein), Caity Lotz (Sara/ White Canary), Brandon Routh (Ray/ the Atom), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Amaya/Vixen), Nick Zano (Nate/ Steel), Tala Ashe (Zari Tomaz), Dominic Purcell (Mick/ Heatwave), Wentworth Miller (Leonard/ Citizen Steel), Amy Louise Pemberton (Gideon), Jes Macallan (Ava Sharpe), Ben Diskin (Beebo), Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk), Neal McDonough (Damien Darhk), John Noble (Mallus), and Matt Ryan (John Constantine).

In conclusion, this episode of Legends of Tomorrow was a brilliant send off of Franz Drameh as Jax, and it also delivered on an interesting story as a whole and also sets up a world of other exciting stories. I will give this episode of Legends of Tomorrow a 9 out of 10. I would really like to know your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below, like what was your favorite scene in the episode?
