INFINITY WAR "WINTER SOLDIER" DISCUSSION
Oh, I guess he isn't the Winter Soldier anymore. Should I have just said "Bucky"? Oh well, Winter Soldier sounds cooled, and that is who we are talking about, Sebastian Stan in Avengers Infinity War, playing the World War Two Howling Comando, Bucky Barnes, in Avengers Infinity War. Spoilers ahead of Avengers Infinity War, we will be talking about Bucky and how he was in Infinity War, and how he will play into Avengers 4.
Woken up from the ice in the Black panther post credit scene, and given a restored brain, with no trigger words, we find Bucky in Wakanda, shepherding some sheep. T'Challa shows up gives Bucky a Vibranium left arm, as they prepare for the Avengers arrival. Bucky greets his old pal Steve, as they go on the battle lines in Wakanda to fight Thanos' invading forces coming to get Vision's Mind Stone.
In the battle, Thor, Rocket, and Groot show up helping out. Bucky picks up Rocket by the head to fight some Outriders. Rocket asks Bucky how much his gun and arm cost. With Thanos closing in on Vision, the Avengers go to fight the mad Tita. Bucky is taken out in half a second by Thanos. Getting the stones, Thanos snaps his fingers and half the life in the universe starts to get erased. "Steve?" is Bucky's last word as he was the first person in Wakanda to turn to dust.
Ok so looking at that recap, Bucky didn't have too much to do in Infinity War, as there was no major role for him to play. And to be honest, that makes sense. Bucky has no ties to Thanos or the Infinity Stones, so it made sense for him not to be heavily involved. However, still having the character in the film is an exciting thing to see. Who would have ever thought when the first Captain America film came out seven years ago that we would see Bucky picking up Rocket Racoon in Wakanda while fighting Thanos.
That small interaction between Rocket and Bucky was great. It really showed how much thought that the wrote had for each of these characters to carry over little jokes from previous films in work them into this film.
Bucky turning into dust did come a little bit as a surprise because I thought that Avengers 4 would be the new Avengers, however, it was interesting seeing that twist. I was expecting Steve to turn to dust, but instead, Bucky does, and on top of that, Sam does as well. The next two Captain America's turn to dust. I feel like turning to dust almost depended on age, and that is why Bucky turned to dust first, as he is the oldest, being around eighty.
In Avengers 4, Bucky won't have too much of a role, especially as though he has turned to dust, and that everyone else is trying to get them back. However, if we see Captain America die in Avengers 4, we could potentially see Bucky taking up the mantle towards the end of the film when the balance is restored into the universe, or to Thanos, the 'unbalancing'.
In conclusion, Sebastian Stan was awesome as Bucky Barnes. Although he did not get much screen time, it was exciting to see him on screen with so many other characters, fighting Thanos in Wakanda, it was awesome. Sad to see Bucky turn to dust, however, there seems like there will be a large future ahead for the character with him potentially becoming the next Captain America.
