WONDER WOMAM 1984 POSTER BREAKDOWN
A brand new poster for Wonder Woman ‘84 has come out with new armor for the princess of Themyscira, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) which is probably used in the final battle of the film. I will get into what this particular armor might be used for and what might be happening in Wonder Woman 84.
In the comics, Diana has dawned a gold, full-body armor several times. One of the most notable gold armors that Diana has sported in the comics was the Golden Eagle Armor. This live-action suit is not the Golden Eagle suit, as the wings are absent, however, the design and of course, the coloring does look reminiscent. The use for that suit was for Diana to have more protection when fighting against Imperiex in the “Our Worlds at War” story. Of course, this story is not going to be what the Wonder Woman sequel is going to be adapted from, because that is Justice League event, and delves into more cosmic aspects.
When looking at the villains of the film, we know that Cheeta is going to play a role. I do not think she is going to be the main villain of the film, because she is no match for Wonder Woman, however, Cheeta seems like she will be a fun pay off to see on screen, and may create an entertaining fight on screen- not a reason for Diana to suit up in full body armor.
I would assume that the main reason that Diana needs to wear a brand new armor is to fight the main villain of the film who poses a large threat to the world, and Diana. Therefore the only thing that could challenge a god, is probably another God.
There are two Olympian Gods that I would see who could potentially be the villain of the film, so let’s go through them.
Nemesis:
A character who has not been utilized by the Wonder Woman comics, however, is an older goddess in Greek mythology is Nemesis, the goddess of revenge. In the comics, Nemesis has appeared once in a while as a villain and has been fueled on the emotions of vengeance. conceivable in the film, it is possible for the character to be adapted by director Patty Jenkins as a reinvention of the character, bent on possibly getting revenge for Ares (who may or may not be fully dead), however, this might be a little bit of a stretch. Although, a god is still a god and Diana would most likely wear a suit like this if fighting Nemesis.
Hades:
The Greek God of the underworld has played a large role in DC Comics throughout the years. Hades in Greek mythology is the brother of Zeus, therefore making him Diana’s uncle- another family connection. Although the concept of taking down the embodiment of underworld or the living dead seems like a large concept to tackle, however, it could be pulled off by Jenkins, delving into the themes of moving on, which may be a lesson that Diana needs to learn.
In the film, I suppose that if Hades comes along, maybe he wants to fight or bring Diana to his side so they can rule the multiverse as Uncle and niece, kind of like what Ares wanted to do in the first film, however, not as uncle or niece, but rather as step-siblings. When looking on at what is going on the film, we know that the film is set in 1984, and Jenkins did reveal on Twitter that Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) is back as himself… looking the same as he did in 1918, and not dead. Steve in this film is the living dead.
It appears as though Steve’s return in this film is a sign of Hades using his abilities in this film to bring Steve back to life. It seems like Hades will be manipulating Diana in the film, by giving her all that she has lost, so Steve, and possibly Antiope could be seen coming back in one form or the other in the film.
Also, with Hades as the main villain of the film, there would be a reason for Diana to wear this new battle armor in the film as there is a villain that does pose a serious physical threat to her.
Since this film is set in 1984, and we have not seen the armor in the present day, whatever threat that Diana will face in the film seems like it will be her biggest yet, therefore giving a reason as to why we have not seen it in the later films. Or Diana may have lost it, I don’t know? Anyway, it still looks really awesome.
Anyway, this does it for the breakdown of this new Wonder Woman armor which will appear in Wonder Woman ‘84, which is coming out sometime next year, so I suppose we will see more trailers and posters dropping for the film either late this year or next year, so subscribe for that.
