ADVENTURE TIME "TEMPLE OF MARS" REVIEW
Season 10 Episode 11:
Hey everyone, round three of tonight, with a new Adventure Time episode directed by Diana Lafyatis. In this episode we see the story with Jake develop as we also see a new story regarding King Man and Betty on Mars start to develop simultaneously. Spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.
The episode opens up with Finn coming home to the Treehouse. There sits Jermaine who tells Finn that he is worried about Jake and that he has been having visions of him stranded on a remote planet by himself. Finn takes Jermaine to Magic Man's house where they use the teleporter to get to Mars. On Mars, Finn and Jermaine meet King Man and Betty. Finn tells King Man that Jake is missing, so King Man tells Finn and Jermaine to go with Betty through a cave where they will get a capsule to save Jake. Putting on Martian hats, Finn, Jermaine, and Betty enter the cave. In the cave, the three go on a dark path where they are surrounded by water with frogs on leap pads. Finn looks at one unique frog who gets angry at Finn and tries to jump him. Seeing that the frogs are angered by eye contact, Finn warns Betty and Jermaine, however, it's too late, Betty looked at all the frogs. Finn carries Betty and Jermaine as he runs away past the path to an ice structure.
On the ice path, there is a blackboard. Seeing the equation is wrong, Betty tries to re-correct on the board, hoping it will get them out. After changing some numbers, Finn sees that some of the numbers change automatically. Finn looks up to see a weird creature changing the numbers with his magic. Finn crawls up to stop the creature, however, it flies away. Finn falls down and falls on the blackboard which creates a white oblivion. Jermaine finds a window. Finn and Betty go over and inside they see a window into the past of Betty. In the window, Betty points out that is the day before she was going on a trip, which she didn't go on because she met Simon. Past Betty tells her future self that she needs to save herself. Finn tells Betty that she is a lost cause, however past Betty is not. Betty uses her magic powers to change the date on her plane tickets to the day before. The window disappears, and Jake appears. Finn and Jermaine reconcile with Jake.
The doorway to Mars opens up and Finn, Jake, Jermaine, and Betty walk out and meet back with King Man. Jermaine learns that he got head lice from Finn. Betty tells King Man that she wants to bring GOLB back.
This episode of Adventure Time was exciting. We visited mars, which is something we haven't done in a while. I almost forgot about the name changes Magic Man went through. But with these final episodes, the show is deciding to wrap up all the forgotten Mars thread so they will not overshadow the finale. But the primary part of the episode was to get Jake back. The episode feels a little short in Jake actually coming back, however, the quest that the three went on in the episode was interesting as it explored the characters of Betty and Jermaine. With Betty, we saw her decide to live with her insane personality thanks to the Magic Man curse. Jermaine returning in this episode was great. I always love seeing him and Finn on screen together, it shows a great contrast in the two personalities and that is even better to look at with knowing that they grew up together.
The cast of this episode was great. Even voice the characters well and it further illustrated where these characters are. Starring in the episode we had Jeremy Shada (Finn Mertens), Tom Scharping (Jermaine), Felicia Day (Betty Grof), Tom Kenny (King Man), and John DiMaggio (Jake).
In conclusion, this episode of Adventure Time was great. We went an exciting adventure with three different characters as they all go on a journey of self-discovery; paired with great animation and voice acting, this was one cool episode. I will give this episode an 8.5 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on this episode down in the comments below.
