ADVENTURE TIME "THE FIRST INVESTIGATION" REVIEW
Season 10 Episode 8:
Round four, we are back with a new review on the new Adventure Time episodes from tonight, and this episode we see some really awesome time stuff and a set up for the next story arc. Spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.
Kim Kil Whan visits Jake and Finn and tells them that their parents, Joshua and Margaret's investigation work building is haunted. Thinking that they could potentially see their parents once again as ghosts, Finn and Jake get ready to go the building. At the building, Finn and Jake reminisce about the memories they once had as infants at the building. Finn and Jake find a videotape which they play. On the tape, Margaret and Joshua find a message made out of tape, and they also find a ghost. Finn and Jake split up to find ghosts.
Finn looks downstairs and finds a ghost, while also finds a ghost upstairs, and he freaks out. Finn finds some more ghost but it is revealed that the ghosts are baby Finn, baby Jake, and baby Jermaine. However Finn can interact with the babies and he realizes that there is no ghost, however time anachronisms. Meanwhile, Jake goes to the bathroom where he sees a futuristic room, he closes the door and opens it finding a lady getting dressed, he closes the door and is back in the regular bathroom. Jake then looks out the window and sees his father pop newborn Jake from his head. Jake then rushes downstairs where he finds one of Kim Kil Whan's workers and he scares them.
Finn and Jake meet up together and Finn explains to Jake that the building is stuck in multiple times and that things and people are coming in and out of the building. Finn and Jake see a blue silhouette and follow it to the attic where they find Clock Bear. Finn and Jake see that Clock Bear is broken. Finn fixes the beat and then Clock Bear starts to suck the time displacements into him. Finn rushes downstairs and grabs some tape to write on the floor "I love u". Outside in the present day, Jake is greeted by the Shapeshifter creature who touches him and Jake turns blue. The shapeshifter transforms into a different creature. Outside with Clock Bear, Finn runs around the building where he does not find Jake, but a letter that says "BRB- Jake".
Overall, this episode of Adventure Time was a brilliant episode. It was smart in tieing multiple episodes from the series together and it was tied up in a neat way. I loved Finn interacting with the babies, and reminiscing over this infanthood. I also enjoyed how Finn reached out to his parents by writing the very message that leads them to the discovery, and how Finn was desperate to reach out to Joshua and Margaret. The episode was consistent on handling the past, present, and future, such as with Jake being the creature that scared away Kim Kil Whan's worker. In the episode, we saw Jake look out into the future, where Ooo seems to be inhabited by the same unique creatures, and Jake also looks into the past where he sees a type of rich woman. This appears to be possibly a century before the Mushroom War.
About the ending of the episode, Jake was taken away by the Shapeshifter creature. if you do not remember, the Shapeshifter creature appeared a couple years ago where it bit Joshua on the head and that is how Jake burst out of his head. With the Shapeshifter taking Jake, it seems like Jake will go on some type of journey of self-discovery where he might learn new powers from the shapeshifter. Those powers may potentially lead to Jake being the key to stopping Fern and the Evil Candy Royal family.
The voice cast of the episode was great as always. Everyone played the character they were to portray in a unique way regarding the circumstances that they were put through. In the episode was Jeremy Shada (Finn Mertens), John DiMaggio (Jake/ Clock Bear), Kent Osborne (Joshua), Maria Bamford (Margaret), Marc Evan Jackson (Kim Kil Whan), and Dave Foley (Shapeshifter).
In conclusion, this episode of Adventure Time told a brilliantly crafted story which showed us personalities of out main protagonist Finn and Jake, and how they view their past and present. With neat jokes, excellent animation, and an interesting cliffhanger, this was a great time. I will give this episode of Adventure Time a 9 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, take care.
