THE FLASH "THEREFORE SHE IS" REVIEW

Season 4 Episode 20:

Hey everyone, we are back with a brand new episode of the Flash directed by Rob J. Greenlea, and this episode brings us a plethora of development for many characters including Cisco, Marlize, and also the mystery girl. So spoilers ahead for this episode of the Flash, let's recap.

Within a flashback, we see Marlize and Clifford meet for the first time. Back in present day, Cisco is sitting on the idea of working as the Breacher on Earth-19. with Gypsy. Meanwhile, as Caitlin tries to get her powers back Harry tells the team about his brain. After DeVoe robs a facility killing a man, Barry, Cisco, Iris, and Joe find what DeVoe stole. Needing to find DeVoe, Barry calls in Gypsy to vibe with Cisco where DeVoe is planning to steal. The two do and find a shipping container. Barry, Cisco, and Gypsy go to the shipyard where they confront DeVoe. Barry gets teleported to the Nothern Lights as Gypsy and Cisco get knocked down. At STAR Labs, the team tries to find out what DeVoe is building, while Gypsy and Cisco try to resort their disagreements.Meanwhile, Joe tells Harry to look after Cecile as he does something. Cecile helps Harry with the thoughts which he loses in his mind.

Wanting to catch DeVoe, Barry gets Gypsy and Cisco to sort through their problems and work together. Cisco and Gypsy try to vibe DeVoe, however, they are both shocked. In flashbacks we see DeVoe and Marlize start to see how technology be cancer to society. In STAR Labs Barry sees that DeVoe is going to build multiple devices with the tech he has stolen. At a facility, Marlize and DeVoe break-in. Barry, Cisco, Gypsy, and Caitlin go to confront the Thinker. Barry, Gypsy, and Cisco manage to take down the Thinker with their abilities. However, the three get knocked down. Caitlin freezes DeVoe with the cold gun, however, she is knocked down. DeVoe uses his powers to choke Gypsy, while he has the others pinned on the ground. Marlize stops DeVoe from chocking Gypsy as he flees the facility. Cisco goes over to check on Gypsy who is okay. Back at STAR Labs, Harry and Cecile, tell the rest of the team that DeVoe's plan is to create five devices which will ultimately decrease everyone's mind to bring everyone back to a simpler mind, to "enlighten" everyone.

On Earth-19, Cisco drops off Gypsy as the two leave each other, parting ways, breaking up with each other. In the Thinker lair, Marlize tells DeVoe that he has gone too far and that she doesn't want to be with him, because the real DeVoe is lost. Using the teleporting chair, Marlize teleports out of the lair. The episode ends with Cecile being surprised with a baby shower created by Joe. The mystery girl from Jitters shows up to the baby showed as she gives Cecile a gift and tells her that the baby is going to be born in 21 days. Iris goes to the doorway as the mystery girl is not there. Around the corner, the mystery girl takes a deep breath as she super speeds away.

Overall, this was a well-made episode of the series, not only with the story told, however with the film techniques used in the episode to bring it to life. The episode had a focus on the Cisco and Gypsy relationship. The way that the episode was used the relationship as the main story was great. In showing the starting current point of their relationship was interesting, so it was great to see how that evolved through the episode and the events that went on. By the end of the episode, the character's did break up which was a change to the characters, and shift in the character of Cisco which may have been needed. I did believe that Cisco would take a break from the team at the end of this season, but it seems like that is not the case. In the episode, we also did get that brief shot of Accelerator man in the Earth-19 police station. Just before Cisco and Gypsy break up.

I have to say that my favorite scene of the film was the ending scene with the mystery girl which was amazing. In that scene, we got the shout out that Cecile will give birth in 21 days, which is the season four finale. The mystery girl at the end had so many clues leading up to her identity. I do have to stick with the theory that she is Dawn Allen, the daughter of Barry and Iris. The last scene in the episode heavily teased at that. First of all, we learn of that Dawn knows of the birthday of her assumed aunt. When the assumed Dawn saw Iris we see that she sort of freaked out. What I theorize here is that Dawn had a falling out with her mother in the future, so when she saw her in the present day, she freaked out a bit. The biggest tease of Dawn at the end was the reveal she has super speed. The lightning was purple and yellow. Looking at Barry, her father, he has yellow lightning. looking back at when Iris got speed, she had purple lightning. So it makes sense that Dawn would get a mixture of the speed lightning colors of her parents.

Jessica Camacho was amazing as Gypsy. I loved the way that the character was portrayed in the sense where she is having trouble in her relationship with Cisco, in the way she wanted to be with Cisco, but she wasn't ready with Cisco. I am not too sure when Camacho will come back to the show, most likely for some episode in season five, and who knows if she will get back with Cisco. The cast of the episode was great. Starring in the episode we had Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramone/ Vibe), Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/ The Flash), Candice Patton (Iris West-Allen), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow), Jesse L. Martin (Joe West), Tom Cavanagh (Harry Wells), Danielle Nicolet (Cecile Horton), Sean Poague (Accelerator Man), Jessica Parker Kenedy (Mystery Girl/ Dawn Allen), Kim Engelbrecht (Marlize DeVoe/ the Mechanic), and Neil Sandilands (Clifford DeVoe/ the Thinker).

In conclusion, this episode of the Flash was amazing in the film techniques used to illustrate the story of Gypsy and Cisco as their relationship is broken apart by the weight of DeVoe's plan. With a great cast, director, and awesome ending, this was one exciting episode which I will give an 8.5 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below.
