THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER TRAILER BREAKDOWN

A new trailer showcasing several of the Marvel Studios television series coming to Disney Plus was aired at the Superbowl, and there is a lot within these trailers giving us our first look at what is to come in the future for a lot of important characters. The first series of footage that I want to take a look at is from the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, so here we go.

   The New Captain America

In the opening shot, we see Sam Wilson practicing throwing his newly inherited Captain American shield from Steve Rogers. The shield is stuck in a tree, and as a result of Sam not having any biological super strength like Rogers, he has to use two hands to get the shield out of the tree.

The farmhouse area that Sam is at with Bucky appears to be a new location. The more rural area may seem to suggest the fact that the government, after the blip, is still wanting to track down the heroes who fought against the law in Captain America: Civil War, which includes Sam, Bucky, and Wanda.

   Falcon in Action

We see a chase with some uninformed individuals gliding through the sky with Sam chasing them. The suit that he is wearing here is the same suit as he has been sporting as early as the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. It seems like that during this first season of the series, or possibly at the very end, he will get a proper Captain America suit, with the wings included, much like the comics when Sam Wilson did take up the mantle of Captain America.

The yellow on the suits of the soldiers that Sam appears to be chasing does lead my to believe that Sam is fighting the A.I.M organization. The last time that we saw AIM in the MCU was back in Iron Man 3. Since AIM has not been used in the films in a while, it would make sense for this organization well known from the comics to make their return.

   Zemo's Return

Short hair Bucky is confronting Baron Zemo at this lake area. Zemo most likely escaped his imprisonment during the five year time period of the snap, but now with everyone back, he may be wanting to continue his revenge plot to destroy the Avengers, and now, in particular, get revenge on Bucky and Falcon for the parts they played in his demise in Captain America: Civil War.

This shot, in particular, has Bucky dropping bullets in front of Zemo. These are the bullets that would have been in Bucky’s gun that he was holding to Zemo. The trailer does not provide any explanation as to why the bullets are dropping from the gun unless Bucky did it to prevent himself from accidentally shooting Zemo.

   U.S Agent

In a football game, we see a new character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe come out as a mascot of sorts, and that is the U.S Agent. This character is an important deal of sorts to be introduced into the MCU, so here is a small recap of the character from the comics.

When Steve Rogers retired from being Captain America, the Commissions of Super Human Activity voted in a man named John F. Walker to take on the mantle, to which he did. Later in his superhero career, Walker took up the identity of the U.S Agent, with his retaining a black alteration of the Captain America suit, with the shield.

This is a basis for what is most likely to happen in the series. The U.S Government will most likely want to create their own Captain America, that being Walker. This may turn to the series into a fight for the right to retain the shield between Walker and Sam.

When looking at this U.S Agent suit, it is a deeper blue than the regular Captain America suit, however, it is not fully black. This indicates that when the series opens with this character, he will not be known as the U.S Agent, however, as the new Captain America. In addition, with Walker carrying the shield, the government most likely confiscated the shield from Sam.
Or this could be a completely different shield, as it was never really started how many Captain America shields there are. There is the original, the one that Tony Stark made which got half broken in Endgame, and then there was a different one which old Steve gave to Sam.

In this last shot here, it likely continues from the U.S Agent debuting at the football game, as Sam and Bucky look out to the field to witness the legacy of their friend being given to someone who has never met him. It seems like the battle for the right to be called ‘Captain America’ and the theme of legacy will be an important deal in this series. Bucky and Sam are essentially all that are left in this world. Most of their friends have either passed away, or have retired from the superhero gig, and it is up to them to keep the morals and ideals of what heroes such as Steve Rogers held dear to them.

   Conclusion
In conclusion, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looks really awesome. It seems like it will expand on the universe of the MCU, with some old elements coming into play as well. I also do appreciate the more isolated nature of what this series appears to be, which is something that Spider-Man Far From Home touches on, since in this new era, the pieces of glue that held the Avengers and the superhero community together have passed away, leaving heroes such as Bucky and Sam to find out how to be heroes by themselves.

When Falcon and the Winter Soldier airs in August, I will most likely have a subscription to Disney Plus by then, and review the episodes as they come out. But for now, I will get onto the next trailer breakdown, and that is for WandaVision, so stay tuned. As always, thanks for reading, take care.
