SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY TRAILER BREAKDOWN

The official trailer for the solo Han Solo film has come out, along with a few more scenes from the film, as we get a closer look at the characters, new and returning, as well as the plot of the film as the release date of the film approaches to be at the end of next month. So about six weeks away. Anyway, let's get into the breakdown of this trailer.

The trailer opens up on this planet that I am assuming is Corellia, the home planet of Han Solo. It may not be, but that is the best guess. In this shot there are two Star Destroyers in the sky, both looking incomplete, with panels missing. This is the what is considered the early stages of the Empire. With the film taking place about a decade before A New Hope, the Empire is only nine years old at this point, which explains this incomplete star destroyer. On a power line is a type of red rat, a new species to the Star Wars universe, but the idea of this creature reminds me of Plusle.

We see Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) himself enter to this obscure underground cave. It seems like Han is wanting to enter this underground club, presumably on Corellia. The club is most likely against the Empire, this being the reason it is underground. It is unclear where this would take place in the film if this were the case. At the beginning of the film, the character is more or less oblivious to the Empire, as we saw him apply. So this could potentially be at the end of the film, where Han has to complete a mission under the nose of the Empire.

A very Western-inspired shot of Han drawing out his blaster from the holster. I do like where the film is visually going with this shot, creating a more distinct look of this film compared to the sage films and Rogue One. The person he is confronting here is a female villain. The armor she is wearing looks a little Mandalorian, so it is possible that Boba Fett or other Mandalorian's show up here. In the film, this seems like a small side mission that Han goes on, something he learns here may play a larger role in the film as a whole, but other than that, this scene does not seem like it will accelerate the main story of the mission that Han is going on.

Qi'Ra (Emilia Clarke) is with Han Solo in this casino, telling him about his "rough" looks. In the film, it hasn't been confirmed, but it is most likely that Qi'Ra and Han have an intimate relationship. If that were the case that would mean Qi'Ra would potentially have to die in this film. From the way it has been set up in the trailers, the two characters look like they are more than friends. This scene here is the type of high class hang out where we see Paul Bettany's character in later on. From the way we have seen Qi'Ra in the trailers, she seems like she is from a high-class background, and it the type of person who would hang out here.

After hearing Tobias Beckett (Woody Harelson), says that he is being hired by a man to put together a team, to pull off a heist, thus Han and Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) get recruited. It appears that Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany), a new character in the films, is the man in charge of the mission that Han and Beckett have to pull off. Vos is most likely a smuggler who needs a part of the Empire taken down so he can go around doing his business without being shut down.

This is a very Han Solo scene, Han telling Chewbacca that he does not know what he is talking about. This film is the start of the relationship of Han and Chewbacca, so it is great that the trailer shows off the dynamic between the two character's in the film which is similar to that of the Original Trilogy. In the film, we will most likely see Han and Chewbacca meeting, which will be interesting to see. In the legends, Han and Chewbacca meeting is a great story. The story was that working for the Empire, Han saw that there was Wookie slave labor. So Han broke out Chewbacca and the two became friends.

In this casino, we see Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), who tells Han "everything you hear about me is true." Lando in this film seems like he will be as smooth and relaxed as he was in Empire. This scene here looks like the scene where Han first meets Lando and potentially wins the Millennium Falcon, which we get a clearer shot of in the trailer. Along with Lando in the film is his sassy robot pal named "L3-37" (Phoebe Waller-Bridge). The character does feel like it is the sassy droid of the film like all Star Wars films have. It is not clear as to why Lando and 37 get involved in this mission with Han and Beckett, but I am sure it will be explained in the film.

Here is the clear, bright shot of the Millennium Falcon in its early years. We see that the ship has a sleek white and blue design. The middle part of the ship which is usually empty is a cargo container. That is the purpose of the empty space, to hold cargo, so in this film, it is possible that the ship will lose the container. With the film taking place about a decade before A New Hope, it is weird to think how dirty this ship will get inside and out. I hope that there is not on the nose foreshadowing to that.

Here is a nice shot, Chewbacca is hugging presumably his wife Malla. That name is the name of Chewbacca's wife from the holiday special in 1978. This shot it most likely when Chewbacca leaves with Han on this mission. It is possible that Malla gets killed in this film, leaving as to why Chewbacca stays with Han. However, this is where my main point I wanted to get across comes in, that the Holiday Special needs to be canonized. With the concept of life day, we explore the life of Chewbacca and how he hasn't abandoned his family, as he comes home every life day. The Holiday special expands the lore of the character of Chewbacca showing that he has more to fight for. He has the freedom of his wife, son, and father that he is fighting against the Empire. I will do a form of an essay on why the Holiday special should be canonized, that'll happen later.

But back to the trailer, we get a twist on the "I have a bad feeling about this" line in all the Star Wars films. This time we get Han saying "I have a good feeling about this". A nice subtle wink to that line without directly saying that. I just hope that this line does not jynx the film. In this shot, we also learn that Chewbacca is 190 years old. I am surprised that Chewbacca's age was canonized. This age does make sense regarding the Prequel trilogy, and how Chewbacca appeared the same in Revenge of the Sith. Being 190, this means that Chewbacca is like around 230 years old in the Sequel trilogy.

The last shot of the trailer is the train heist which is presumably from the middle of the film. With Han and Chewbacca on this Imperial train, Chewbacca nearly falls off and Han is holding onto him. I do like the relationship here where Han is helping out Chewbacca, something we never saw in the Original Trilogy (apart from the Holiday special). The thing that I don't like in this trailer here is how this is the main hype, building up suspense part because we all know that Chewbacca lives, so there was no real selling point at the end of this trailer. That is more of a blame of the trailer editing, as they may not be allowed to put in an exciting scene as it spoils the film.

In conclusion, this trailer for Solo does get me a little more excited for the film and how it will play out, in terms of the relationships it explores, and how the film will be set in this Western genre compared to the other Star Wars films.
