THE FLASH "THINK FAST" REVIEW

Season 4 Episode 22:

Hey everyone, we are back with a brand new episode of the Flash, directed by Viet Nguyen. This episode is the second the last episode of season four, and that means that the team is once again on a ticking clock to stop DeVoe and his enlightenment plan. So spoilers ahead for this episode, let's recap.

In an Argus facility where Fallout is being stored, Diggle comes to visit, however, it is actually DeVoe in disguise who makes his way through the facility setting off Fallout, and the holding hostages. Getting a distress call, team Flash learns of the situation. Running the real Diggle over, Barry and the others discover what DeVoe is doing and realize that they have 12 hours until Fallout finishes dispersing his energy for DeVoe to use.

Getting close to going into labor, Cecile's powers amplify as she starts to inhabit the minds of people herself. Meanwhile, Iris and Harry do some investigating, as they discover that they need to recruit Marlize to help them. Learning that Barry is a speed force generator, Caitlin and Cisco suggest the idea to Barry that they should enter Flash-Time with him to help rescue the hostages, as Barry stops DeVoe. The three start to train, however, Cisco and Caitlin fail to use their powers, as Caitlin gets injured as she has a childhood flashback. Caitlin then goes to the med bay to recover.

With time running out, Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin suit up and go to the Argus facility. Entering Flash-Time, the Cisco and Caitlin go to save the hostages, while Barry uses all his speed to chase DeVoe into his pocket dimension. Barry confronts DeVoe in the streets of Central City, where DeVoe launches his satellites and tells Barry that "love" is fake. Barry uses a bomb to destroy one of the satellites as DeVoe flees. Meanwhile, Caitlin asks Cisco to vibe her flashback, which he does, and the two see that Caitlin turned into Killer Frost when she was a child in the car accident. Iris and Harry visit Marlize where they ask her for help. Back at STAR Labs, the Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin see that DeVoe is in the lab, which he is in the brain room. Using the Fallout energy, DeVoe launches a STAR Labs satellite to complete the enlightenment.

Overall, this episode of the Flash was an exciting episode, in the way in which it forced everyone to resort to some of the last resorts to go up against DeVoe and the ticking clock. Going through the episode, that opening scene with DeVoe was amazing. It was one of the best scenes in the episode and it defined DeVoe as to not be a mental challenge, however a physical challenge for the team to face. Diggle in the episode was great. I loved how everyone tried to get a bucket for him. His cameo was over and out, and it fulfilled its plot purpose along with bringing some great humor.

There were some great interesting scenes in the episode. Cecile inhabiting peoples minds was interesting, as it possibly sets up her helping to stop the Thinker, as she could become the Thinker herself. I mean the only things that could stop that is the fact that Cecile will be giving birth while everyone else stops DeVoe.

Iris and Harry sort of worked. One thing that did annoy me was the way that Harry was played more for humor. Harry's plot may potentially be the most devastating. I will forgive them if Harry's memory and overall brain loss is fixed, however, it just made the rest of the team looked less sympathetic. Marlize helping team Flash will be a pivotal part of stopping the Thinker. She will most likely be the one to create the "Cerebral Inhibitor" to stop her husband. I did like how they paired Marlize up with Iris, in a way where they have to get rid of their differences to save the world.

Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin together were amazing. I love it when it's just those three, bringing it back to the first season. The way that Barry was relentless in bringing Cisco and Caitlin into Flash-Time was great, as it shows that Barry cares too much about them for them to get killed, like what happened to Ralph. But by the end of the episode, we saw some points from Cisco telling Barry that they will choose to die to save the world. It all sort of worked out at the end. Before the end, we saw that Killer Frost was in Caitlin this whole time and that she is bought out in desperate times. The show is playing very optimistic on bringing Killer Frost back.

The end of the episode was a great place the end off. The end was my favorite scene in the episode, as we saw the team failed. They still have a small chance, but ultimately their initial plan of stopping DeVoe failed. With the enlightenment happening, we see that Barry has to fight DeVoe in his mind. I am curious to see what everyone else will have to do in the episode, in the way that they have to face the enlightenment in the real world.

Neil Sandilands spectacular in this episode as DeVoe. The episode showed how much of a threat that the Thinker really is. That was done perfectly in the opening scene, where he takes down all the Argus soldiers using his plethora of powers collected from the Meta's. The performance from Sandilands was great, and it displayed the character in the state that he is in.
David Ramsey was awesome as John Diggle in this episode. His cameo was great, it had its plot service, and there was some great humor tied to it.

The rest of the cast was great in the episode. We saw the way that the characters reacted to this situation in manners where no one felt like they were too much out of character. Starring in the episode we had Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/ The Flash), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramone/ Vibe), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow), David Ramsey (John Diggle/ Spartan), Candice Patton (Iris West-Allen), Tom Cavanagh (Harry Wells)Jesse L. Martin (Joe West), Danielle Nicolet (Cecile Horton), Kim Engelbrecht (Marlize DeVoe), Neil Sandilands (Clifford DeVoe/ The Thinker).

In conclusion, this episode of the Flash was an intense episode which had some great visual techniques to show some glorious action scenes, and performances from the cast. With high stakes, the episode had high entertainment to serve as a predecessor for the season finale. I will give this episode an 8.5 out of 10.
