ADVENTURE TIME "GUMBALDIA" REVIEW

Season 10 Episode 11:

The final episode of tonight is the fifth to last episode of the series. Directed by Diana Lafyatis, this episode of Adventure Time centers around Finn and Jake back in the candy Kingdom using the last of their efforts to stop the deadly war between the Candy Kingdom and Gumbald and his forces. So spoilers ahead for this episode of Adventure Time, as we will recap and then review.

The episode opens up with Princess Bubblegum and Starchy flying over Gumbald's kingdom on Morrow, as they take pictures. Back at the Candy Kingdom, Bubblegum process the pictures with Colonel Candy Corn. Finn walks in messing up the rendering process, ruining the images. Finn tries to talk Bubblegum out of a war with her uncle, however, she is committed, as she armors up the Banana Guards and Gumball guards. Finn and Jake decide to use their diplomacy to talk Gumbald out of a war with Bubblegum.

Suiting up, Finn and Jake go to the Kingdom of Gumbald. At the Kingdom, Finn and Jake confront Fern as they have a sword fight with each other. Lolly walks down some stairs and calls Fern back. Lolly has a talk with Finn as she tells him and Jake that she does not want a war as well. Lolly takes Finn and Jake to meet Gumbald as he is posing for a painting. Walking and talking, Gumbald tells Finn and Jake that Bubblegum is forcing him to go to war. Seeing the similarities between the two, Finn tries to talk Gumbald out of a war. Gumbald takes Finn and Jake to see his new mech which is the height of the candy kingdom. On an elevator up, Gumbald falls off, so Finn and Jake rescue him. Saving his life, Gumbald decides not to go to war, but he instead invites Finn and Jake for a meal.

While having dinner, Finn and Jake share their crazy experiences with Gumbald, Lolly, and Chicle. As a tradition, Chicle spills some pink liquid solution on Finn and Jake, who wipe some of it off, getting on Chicle who runs away into his room. Back at the Candy Kingdom, Finn and jake hand Bubblegum a treaty of peace signed by Gumbald. Peppermint Butler wipes down Finn and Jake from the pink solution, as it turns into dust in his face and Peppermint Butler turns into a dumber goofier version of himself. Seeing that Gumbald purposely put the "dum-dum" solution on Finn and Jake to revert the intelligence of the Candy people, Bubblegum sees a sign of war. Bubblegum blows a horn, as she tells the Candy people that they are at war, as everyone frantically scrambles for their weapons. A Squirrel from the Candy Kingdom goes to Gumbald and informs him that Bubblegum declares war. Gumbald assembles his posse of villains consisting of Lolly (who does want the war), crunchy Chicle, Ricardio, Mew-Ow, Ash, Sir Slicer, Peace Master, Scorcher, Samantha, Pete Sassafras, Bandit Princess, Fern, and Ice King.

Wow, this was one episode. To start off this episode did an excellent job of creating a simple story which demonstrated how Finn and Jake have grown characters. The premise of the episode shows that Finn and Jake are taking a route of diplomacy which was interesting to see. It was even called out in the episode, that in the early days Finn and Jake would have gone with the path of violence, but they took the path of peace this time, knowing that more than their lives are at stake if they screw this up and that a whole Kingdom could suffer the consequences of their actions. The episode showed how Bubblegum is preparing for this inevitable war by doing everything she can possibly do, from armoring the Banana guards to armoring the Gumbald guards into giving every Candy person a weapon.I am excited to see the Candy Kingdom go to war, because when the show was predicted to end in 2018 I wanted to see the Candy Kingdom be the end game setting for the show, and see some threat come over the place which sent the Kingdom we have seen snippets of from over the years be wreaked in havoc, creating this larger sense of threat and stakes.

Now that ending of the episode was one hell of and cliffhanger. Gumbald knows he will be outmatched, so he assembled the greatest villains still alive in the show that have a feud with Bubblegum, Finn, and Jake to go and have an all-out war against the heroes. All of these characters range all the way back to season one, so all eight years of the shows' run, everyone is coming back for the finale. I am not going to lie, a couple of those characters I had trouble remembering because they were from so long ago in the shows' run. But the villains I am the most interested in seeing is Ricardio and Fern. Ricardo because he had an extremely disturbing story with Bubblegum, and Fern because of the connection he has to Finn. Everyone else will still be exciting to see. With Ash on the villain side, Marceline will have someone to fight who is equal in power. There is so much to be excited about that ending, and the last four episodes in June will be one heck of a way to end the show.

The cast of the show was as always great. Everyone showed expression in all their delivery, and it made for some great character moments. Starring in the episode we had Jeremy Shada (Finn Mertens), John DiMaggio (Jake), Hynden Walch (Princess Bubblegum), Keith Ferguson (Colonel Candy Corn), Steve Little (Peppermint Buttler), Fred Melamed (Gumbald), Maria Bamford (Aunt Lolly), Hayden Ezzy (Fern), Brad Neely (Green Knight), and Tom Kenny (Cousin Chicle/ Ice King).

In conclusion, this episode of Adventure Time was absolutely awesome. Not only did it illustrate how far Finn and Jake have come as characters in eight years, but it was done in an exciting manner where it also managed to drop one of the single best cliffhangers in the show. I will give this episode a 9 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on this episode, and what was your favorite scenes and characters'. Let me know by dropping a comment below.
This is it, the end is near, the next group of episodes of Adventure Time will be the last episodes. This is what eight years, ten seasons, and 287 episodes have been building to, this final duel that will come out in June 2018, where all will finish up.
