CHRISTOPHER ROBIN TRAILER DISCUSSION

The trailer for the Christopher Robin film is out and there is not too much to unpack from the trailer to warrant a breakdown, but there is some stuff to discuss. To start off, I completely forgot this was happening. I reported on this in 2016 when Marc Foster was announced as director, and everyone flipped out that the director of World War Z was directing a live-action Winnie the Pooh film This and the Mary Poppins film which we saw the trailer of a couple days ago, are the two live-action Disney films we are getting this year, well three if you include Wrinkle in Time.

So Christopher Robin, directed by Marc Forster, is adapted off the Winnie the Pooh stories which have had possibly hundreds of books, cartoons, and animated films. The stories focus usually on a young boy, Christopher Robin, going on adventures with his animal friends, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, and others. Winnie the Pooh was one of the only cartoons I used to watch, so it is interesting to see what I the differences between what the characters I perceived back then to now, in this film.

Looking at the trailer we see the clear outline of the plot. We have Ewan McGregor playing Christopher Robin, who is now an adult. We see that he has a wife, Evelyn (Halley Atwell), and a daughter. After being fired from his job, his family goes on a holiday without him. Fallen on hard times with nothing to do we see that Christopher finds his childhood friends, Winnie the Pooh, which most likely leads Robin to go down a nostalgic acid trip where he visits all his friends in Hundred Acre Woods, where he goes on a journey of self-discovery.

The cast of the film looks spectacular. We, of course, have the talented Ewan McGregor as Christopher Robin. That is an awesome choice to have as Christopher Robin, playing a once optimistic man fallen on hard times. In the film, it seems like he will go on a nostalgia trip with his childhood friends so it will be awesome seeing McGregor acting like a child from the events of this film. Haley Atwell will sure to be awesome in the film, I am curious as to her role in the film. But the voice cast is where we see some great picks. We have Jim Cummings as Winnie the Pooh, who from the trailer sounds awesome. He brings this soft, soothing tone in his voice, like the character of Pooh, and In the cast, we have Chris O'Dowd as Tiger, the hyper-annoying tiger. I am not too curious as to how he will sound, but more look. Will he look as done with life as Pooh, I will talk about the look of Pooh in the next paragraph. The rest of the cast seems great, and will hopefully suit the characters well, we have Nick Mohammed (Piglet), Brad Garett (Eeyore), and Peter Capaldi (Rabbit).

The trailer we do get a peck at Pooh. In the other material of Pooh, we see that he is about half the height of a young, child Christopher Robin, and he is full of color. In the trailer, we see that Pooh is very washed out in color, and looks a little smaller than he would be. I know that Pooh is a fragment of Robin's imagination, so I do see why he looks drained out, he looks like he is in the same state as Robin is feeling in on the inside. So as the film progresses I am assuming we will see Pooh and the other animals get more vibrant in color, as Robin's state of mind becomes more colorful, or more in a better mindset. That is what is hinted in the poster that came out. But the trailer does bring up some questions with the look of Pooh.

In conclusion, the trailer for Christopher Robin is a neat trailer. We get a sense for the plot, and we get up to date with Christopher Robin. The reveal of Pooh was mixed, which is good for any trailer, it gets people talking, like me. Christopher Robin comes out in August, let me know your thoughts on the trailer, by dropping a comment below.
