BLACK PANTHER CHARACTER DISCUSSION

With Black Panther out in theaters, we saw a number of new heroes and villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I am going to talk about some of them, starting off with the man himself, Black Panther, T'Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman. Also spoilers ahead for the film, Black Panther by the way.

Starting off let's talk about the character of T'Challa. With the film picking up a week after Civil War, T'Challa is not ready to be king without his father. T'Challa got rid of his vengeance in Civil War by capturing Baron Zemo. In Black Panther, T'Challa rescues Nakia to have a friend got to support him in his trial as King, and to comfort him in mourning the loss of his father. Learning the truth about T'Chaka killing N'Jobu, T'Challa realizes he has to be a better king and a better man than his father was. After being revived from the spirit realm, T'Challa travels to the Vibranium mine to confront Killmonger, as the two fight in their Black Panther suits. With the Vibranium down, T'Challa stabs Killmonger and brings him to see the sunset. So to start off, the character of T'Challa kind of broke the superhero origin mold. In Iron Man, we saw Toby Stark stop being the arrogant playboy, Doctor Strange we saw Stephen Strange get over being arrogant and skeptical. In Black Panther, T'Challa had no flaw which he had to get over. That made for a likable protagonist and we didn't have a re-hash of the Superhero origin, so I didn't feel too bored while watching the characters story.

The character had many amazing scenes in the film. One of my favorite scenes with T'Challa was in the spirit realm where he confronted his father, T'Chaka about abandoning Killmonger. It was an impactful scene in the film where it shaped the direction of King T'Challa.

Going forward into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we know that Black Panther will appear in Avengers Infinity War in a couple months as shown by the trailers and the  "Black Panther will return in Avengers Infinity War" line at the end of the credits. After that, Black Panther will return in Avengers 4 in 2019. It seems like with the success of this film there will be a Black Panther 2, which obviously would have Black Panther in it. The future from there is unclear. We don't know what contract Chadwick Boseman signed, and if it expires soon, he could easily renew it.

In conclusion, Chadwick Boseman was fabulous as T'Challa, and Black Panther in the film. He bought the emotional completely to the character which is loved by audiences, and I can't wait to see him return in a couple months to protect Wakanda from the invasion of Thanos. I would like to hear your thoughts on the character of T'Challa down in the comments below.
