FLASHPOINT FILM CONFIRMED
At San Diego Comic Con it was announced that there was indeed a solo Flash film starring Ezra Miller in development, which will focus on Flashpoint. This was so really awesome news, as this confirms that the Flash is getting a solo film which was kind of up in the air after all the director mayhem.
But if you haven't heard of the story Flashpoint, Barry Allen, the Flash goes back in time to stop the Reverse Flash from murdering his mother. In doing so, Barry finds himself in a drastically alternate timeline where Thomas Wayne is the Batman after his son Bruce Wayne was killed, Cyborg is still Cyborg, Superman was captured by the government at birth, and the Amazonians and Atlantians are having a war. So Barry seeing all of this has to come to terms with losing his mother again and set the timeline back to how it was.
This is one of my personal favorite stories because it deals with so much, development of Barry and a drastically different apocalyptic world. The story was adapted for an animated film which is great and was done for the Flash season 3.
However, having the whole chess board open which is the Justice League, the film could really do Flash point like to comics, going crazy with Wonder Woman vs Aquaman, an anorexic Superman, and an older more hardcore Batman played by Jeffery Dean Morgan, who played Tomhas Wayne in the Batman vs Superman flashback. So Thomas Wayne Batman would be Negan and Batman mixed, freaking awesome. Having a different Batman would be a good idea, giving Ben Affleck a break from being Batman for a bit.
Other than Ben Affleck as Batman, everyone else would have to reprise their roles of their heroes, such as Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Amber Heard (Mera), and Henry Cavill (Superman).
As Flashpoint is an emotional film for Barry Allen, as he obviously has to let go of his own mother by allowing his arch nemesis killing his mother to fix the timeline, there needs to be a build how Barry misses his mother. It seems like we get some of that in Justice League, between all the quips and action there may be some emotional points in the film. There was a shot in the trailer of Barry visiting his father, Henry Allen (Billy Crudup) in prison so there may be a quick scene of Barry feeling sorry for his father in prison, convicted of the murder of his mother, and given the chance, Barry would save his family, he would take it, anyone would.
A factor that could play into the film is using Iris West (Kiersey Clemons) as a reason why Barry changes the timeline back to how it was, as maybe she doesn't exist in the Flashpoint timeline. We know that she is in Justice League, further developing Barry in the team up. So being displayed as a key part of Barry's life, as a love interest, she would play a large part in the narrative of the film, like leave the past in the past and focus in the future.
If you have read the Flash or seen the Flash tv show, you know that anything you change in the past will result in catastrophic effects, which is the story of Flashpoint, however, when you restore the timeline to its original state, it will never be the same. This could be the way that the DCEU is tidied up, changing films that didn't run too smoothly. I could see this film in a way being able to replace actors, like the big Ben Affleck controversy, whether he is leaving or staying, but to be honest on that, they wouldn't full out recast him, they would roll the character back. But Flashpoint could rewrite the character of Lex Luthor and the Joker, characters that the fans are not too happy with.
Anyway, I am really excited for a Flashpoint film with Ezra Miller and hopefully directed by Back to the Future director, Robert Zemeckis. I would like to hear your thoughts on the announcement of the Flashpoint film down in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, take care.
