ARROW "COLLISION COURSE" REVIEW
Season 6 Episode 14:
Hey everyone, Arrow is back finally after the break and this episode, directed by Ken Shane, we see the story of Black Siren continue and we see how the two teams, Team Arrow, and team Canary, go about handling the Earth-2 doppelganger and how that may lead the teams on a collision course as the title suggests. So spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.
The episode opens up with Oliver Queen having a press meeting where he promises Star City to get the 70 million dollars given to the now dead Cayden James, back into the city before everything goes broke. Oliver receives a video from his account who tells him that the offshore account which held the city's money is dry. Oliver, Dinah, Thea, and Quentin look at the security footage and see Black Siren. Later that night team Mr. T go out to the alleyway where Laurel was last seen. using the T-spheres the see that Laurel was being dragged away.
Meanwhile, Quentin awakes Earth-2 Laurel in a cabin that is a hidden secret, saving her from Dinah's revenge quest. Team Arrow goes to the alleyway where Laurel was last seen and they see Dinah's shoe print. Team Arrow confronts Dinah, Curtis, and Rene in their new base, where they are held up with guns and arrows. After getting into an argument, Rene pushes Oliver, and then Oliver unleashes a sleeping gas on Team Mr. T, as Team Arrow leaves. Later on, Rene tells his team that he put a recorder on Oliver in their fight. Meanwhile, Thea finds Quentin and she learns that he was keeping Laurel in a safe haven. Thea calls Oliver and Team Arrow to come over and answer Laurel for the money.
Listening to the recorder, Team Mr. T heads out and follows in a van behind Team Arrow. Seeing that they are being followed, Diggle manages to lose Mr. T and the others. At the safe house, Oliver, Felicity, and Diggle confront Laurel about the money. They start to make a deal with Laurel that she gives them the money and in return, she leaves the country. Quentin asks to go with Laurel, and then everyone tries to talk him out of doing so. Curtis uses the implant in Diggle's arm to get his location, so Rene, Dinah, and Curtis go to confront Team Arrow. Felicity knows Curtis is tracking them, so they quickly all rush to the cars outside. Team Mr. T shows up and Oliver and Diggle fight the three. Rene blows up the cars, Felicity runs into his line of fire giving time for Laurel and Quentin to run into the woods. Curtis fights Oliver, as Dinah runs after Quentin. Rene fights Oliver and gets injured badly. Dinah takes down Quentin and then grabs an injured Laurel by her head. About to kill her like what happened to Vince, Curtis shows up and talks Dinah out from doing what she is doing. After listening to Curtis, she steps back. Laurel then unleashes her cry on the two and runs away. About to chase after her, Oliver and Diggle stop Dinah and Curtis. Rene shows up and then collapses, with Curtis taking him to the hospital.
Later, at the hospital, Dinah and Curtis are waiting to see if Rene will be okay. In the Arrow cave, the team is bumped out that Black Siren is not like the Laurel they once knew and loved. Felicity and Diggle go to the hospital to check on Rene, however, Curtis and Dinah tell them to leave. Before a press meeting, Oliver gets a pep talk by Quentin and Thea. In the meeting, Oliver tells the city that the money was not retrieved and that he has "failed this city." The episode ends with an injured Laurel walking up to a serviceman and acting as though she was missing two years ago.
Overall, this episode of Arrow was an interesting episode. There was a lot of awesome scenes which built up to that Civil War scene. From the first argument in the episode, we saw the views of the two teams. I enjoyed the ways where everyone's viewpoints were explained. We have Team Mr. T annoyed that their privacy was breached and is still breached and the level of distrust that was created, and Team Arrow can blame that all on Rene. There are also a series of other arguments which contract to this feud with the Felicity and Curtis company, to the Black Siren situation. The Civil War fight scene was awesome. I loved seeing the characters go at it at each other. I did feel like Diggle was sidelined a bit in the fight scene, but Oliver carried. Dinah's end fight Laurel was going great. I did like the speech that was given by Curtis, and it was great to see how it was tied back to Oliver.
The end scene was my favorite scene in the episode. To explain it, Black Siren, escaped from the fight and she is attempting to resume the place of Laurel Lance of Earth-1. This would place Siren in the light of the city. Thus not allowing Dinah to kill Laurel while everyone is watching. This might be a part of the plan the Oliver had in mind for Laurel, who knows. But it will be interesting to see how Dinah will react.
Katie Cassidy was fantastic in the episode as Laurel Lance of Earth-2. The sly and slick way she delivered her lines was great and showed how much the character appeared has not changed too much on the outside. I really do wish we saw more of the character in the episode, but that scene in the forest with Dinah was fantastic. That was a standoff which displayed the qualities of both Canaries. I doubt that scene was the last time this season we would see a Canary standoff. Katie Cassidy is fantastic and I am glad that they are keeping her on the show as Black Siren because she plays the doppelganger so well. The rest of the cast starring in the episode was great, we had, Stephen Amell (Oliver/ Green Arrow), Emilly Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), David Ramsey (John/ Spartan), Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance),Willa Holland, (Thea Queen), Juliana Harkavy (Dinah/ Black Canary), Echo Kellum (Curtis/ Mr. Teriffic), Rick Gonzalez (Rene/ Wild Dog), and Jack Moore (William Queen).
In conclusion, this episode of Arrow was an exciting episode in the way we saw the collision course in the episode. From the arguments that the teams had in the episode the reasons for their civil war was highlighted making that fight scene more intense. The cast of the episode was great, especially Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy. The director of the episode, Ken Shane took this episode in a great way. I will give this episode an 8 out of 10.
