BANJO AND KAZOOIE JOIN SMASH ULTIMATE

A new Smash challenger approaches at E3 as Nintendo has announced the latest character to join the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster. And that character is actually two characters, Banjo and Kazooie- in their two for one classic duo. Before we get into the actual trailer, let’s take a look at their history.

Side note: if your confused, Banjo is the bear (his name is based off the instrument he plays, the banjo), and Kazooie is the red bird (her name is based off the instrument, the kazoo).

Banjo and Kazooie were created in 1998 where they debuted in the game of their own names “Banjo-Kazooie”.  That game was developed by Rareware, the company which developed the beloved Donkey Kong games, and the original game was released in the Nintendo 64. In that game, the storyline follows Banjo and Kazooie stopping the evil witch Gruntilda who captured Banjo’s sister.

Banjo and Kazooie have had numerous platform games, three main games, “Banjo-Kazooie” (1998), “Banjo-Tooie” (2000), and “Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts” (2008). There were also a couple of handheld games between 2003 and 2005. Banjo and Kazooie were kind of a big deal in the early 2000s, and the games on N-64 and the Game Boy Advance (along with their re-releases) were really neat games to play, encompassing the familiarity of platformers, all the while introducing the player to a unique world and some fun characters. The franchise has fallen out of the public eye in the past decade, however, with the two being in Smash Bros. Ultimate, I am sure that the two will find themselves circling around back into the public eye.

In the trailer, we see the Duck-Hunt dog and duck create the silhouette of Banjo and Kazooie in front of Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and King K Rool. But the Duck-hunt duo is brushed aside for the real reveal of Banjo and Kazooie, coming together in their signature duo.

It appears that in Smash Bros. the two will be a melee duo, and also Banjo fires Kazooie like a firearm at some points in the trailer which looks fun, as well as slapping around Kazooie. It seems like Banjo and Kazooie will be really fun to play as, seeing them duke it out against other Rareware and just other Nintendo characters.

In the trailer we do see Gruntilda show up, so who knows how she will factor into this?

It was also revealed that the famous Spiral Mountain from the Banjo-Kazooie franchise will be a stage in Smash Ultimate, which seems like it will be fun to play on.

Anyway, well, that is the reveal, the new Smash character is Banjo and Kazooie which I am excited to play as at some point. The Banjo-Kazooie DLC pack will feature the Banjo and Kazooie character duo, the Spiral Mountain stage, along with some new music tracks, which one will be a remix by the original composer of the original games, Grant Kirkhope.

In conclusion, how excited are you for Banjo and Kazooie to join the Smash Ultimate roster. I am curious to see what will happen with these characters when pitted against say Duck-Hunt or other Rareware characters such as Donkey Kong. What are your thoughts on this reveal?
