ARROW "STAR CITY SLAYER" REVIEW

Season 7 Episode 13:

Hey everyone, we are back with another episode of Arrow, directed by Gregory Smith as we see a villain return from Slab-side prison, as well as a few characters leaving the show, and a revelation in the future timeline. So spoilers ahead for the episode lets recap.

Members of team Arrow have been getting notes threatening their lives, all but Oliver- who is reconciling with William who wants to live with his grandparents. and Curtis- who is wanting to leave Argus as he does not agree with their principles, and might work at DC. There are a few homicides in the Star City, and the team nicknames their new serial killer the "Star City Slayer". Dinah makes a call to Captain Singh in Central City as she discovers where to find this new murderer.

In the flash forward, William, Zoe, Dinah, and Roy are investigating the attacks on Star City which are about to happen, as they go to the team Arrow cave, where they are abducted by the blonde girl and Connor Hawke.
Dinah, John, Rene, and Curtis go to a house to find their killed. The four investigate and find a series of horror film tropes. In the basement, Dinah finds a wall that shows that the killer was investigating her and team Arrow. Behind Dinah is the Star City Slayer, AKA Stanley from Slabside, who slits Dinah's throat, as he flees. The others find Dinah, as she warns them that Stanley is going after Oliver. Curtis uses some of his T-spheres to heal Dinah's slit, as they take her to the hospital.

At home, Oliver, Felicity, and William have a power cut dinner, as they suddenly can't move as Stanley has pumped some chemicals into their apartment to do so. Stanley walks in and reunites with Oliver, and tells him that he doesn't want to hurt him. We find out that Stanley murdered his brother, and he doesn't want Oliver's friends hurting him, because only he understands him. Williams slides a bottle to Oliver, and Felicity calls Stanley the "Star City Slayer" as he runs towards her, and Oliver takes him out before John and Rene show up.

In the hospital, the three are all checked up on. Curtis makes his decision to move to DC, as he tells John, Rene, and parts ways with Felicity, giving her full ownership of "Helix". Back home, William says goodbye to Oliver and Felicity as he moves to Central City with his grandparents. Felicity gets a phone call revealing that she is pregnant. Flash forward, Dinah, Roy, William, and Zoe all breakout, and William tells the blonde girl that Oliver and Felicity are his parents, as the blonde girl reveals herself to be "Mia Smoak" -Williams half-sister.

Overall, this episode was an interesting one to say the least, and all that it achieved. In execution, the tone was a little jarring in the middle of the episode, where we had this dark horror tone, mixed and cut with the argument which Oliver and William were having.
The horror element played into the episode was done well towards the end. I do wish that they drew that out for a little longer, as it would have been something different from the shows norm, and would have created A) more suspense, and B) a more memorable episode, especially with the tie in of Stanley back in the fold, and Brendan Fletcher's incredible acting in playing this extremely deranged character.

William leaving the show I suppose was for the best, because there were great reasons for the character wanting to not be around Oliver, and leaving this crazy life behind, especially after all that he has been through. I feel like the show didn't focus on the declining mental stability of William enough, because he only knew Oliver for just over a year before his mother was killed. So with his only parent being killed, that would take a real toll on a person, and I think Jack Moore could have handled a heavy script like that, it was just a little missed opportunity on the writing side. But it would be cool to see Oliver visit William in a crossover when he has to go to Central City.

Curtis leaving the show is a bummer, because I really liked the character. He was a great addition to the team as both Curtis and Mr. Terrific, and really bought a diverse skill set with the technology he incorporated on the field to help everyone. I am glad that we saw the character for over three seasons, and three crossovers, which was great, and I will miss seeing Echo Kellum on the show.

Everyone in the episode did a fabulous job in this episode, and it is a shame that we do have to say bye to Jack Moore, and Echo Kellum. Starring in the episode we had Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/ the Green Arrow), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), Jack Moore (William Clayton), Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt/ Mr. Teriffic), David Ramsey (John Diggle/ Spartan), Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake/ Black Canary), Rick Gonzales (Rene Ramirez/ Wilddog), Eliza Faria (Zoe Rameriz), Patrick Sabongui (Captain David Singh), Brendan Fletcher (Stanley Dover/ Star City Slayer), Colton Haynes (Roy Harper/ Arsenal), Ben Lewis (future William Clayton), Andrea Sixtos (future Zoe Ramirez), Joseph David-Jones (Connor Hawke), and Katherine McNamara (Mia Smoak).

In conclusion, this episode of Arrow was an interesting episode on the way that they played with the tone. It did feel a little inconsistent for the first half of the episode, and it felt like a wasted opportunity. I am kind of sad that we are losing a couple characters from the show, William, and Mr. Teriffic, however, their plots did bring the episode full circle. I will give this episode a 7.8 out of 10.
