AGENTS OF SHIELD "THE LAST DAY" REVIEW
Season 5 Episode 8:
Hey everyone, we are back with a new Agents of SHIELD review and in this episode, we get some kind of confusing flashbacks but also flashforwards, I will explain them all as I believe I have some understanding of what is going on. Strap in for the recap of Agents of SHIELD and beware of spoilers from the episode.
The episode opens with a flashback where we see a young Robin in the Zipper where she is told by May to stand back. In 2091, we see Robin telling May the story. Coulson, Daisy, and the rest of the team come down to Earth where they reunite with May. Deke meets one of his father's friends, Voss, who tells Deke that his father is coming back to the base.
After the team talks to Robin, they discover that she can not distinguish past, present, and future. We get some flashbacks to 2022 where we see May taking care of Robin as they are in the lighthouse facility. We see that Yoyo goes off and tries to kill the Kree, while Fitz gives up on building a time machine.
Meanwhile, in the Lighthouse, Mack, Yoyo, and Flint find out that the Kree are cutting out power and water from the people because Flint did not run himself in. The three go to level three to try to get back their gear, however, they see that a Kree is spraying a chemical to move the Kree creatures, "Vrellnexians". Mack, Yoyo, and Flint believe that the Vrellnexians are going to kill everyone in Level 10. The three race to Level 10 where they find the Vrellnexians killing people. The three save a lady and then Mack gets some of the gas to trap the Vrellnexians in a room. In the room, Yoyo places some devices on the Vrellnexians killing them and saving the day. Mack tells everyone that they have to team up to take down Kasius.
In 2091, Fitz and Simmons discover some type of time machine and find a piece of the obelisk. Fitz and Simmons get trapped in the lab with the time machine. Voss knocks out Deke and then he attempts to take down Coulson and Daisy. The Agents take down Voss and his crew for trying to kill them, however, Voss kills Robin as he does not want her information to get to the Agents. May holds Robin in her arms as Robin tells May the vision she had about the Agents saving Earth, something she has never had before. May then asks the Agents who is "Flint".
The episode ends with Kasius watching from a camera, Sinara landing on Earth.
Ok, so this was an absolutely insane episode which may have confused you. To explain the timeline stuff. So in the MCU, the Agents were around in the events of Infinity War, Avengers 4 all that stuff, the Avengers save the day in the present day. In 2022, Quake cracks the world apart, the Agents slowly die off, and Robin lives through this time knowing these events. However, Enoch stepped in, in 2017, Enoch sent the Agents to 2091, where the events of what happened in 2022 happened, however, the time will most likely change as the Agents went to the future first.
The end scene with May saying that who is Flint, that will most likely be referring to the end of the season. Flint has telekinesis and that makes him the counter to Quake's powers, so it appears that Daisy will break the world and Flint will piece it back together.
But this episode as a whole was quite entertaining. It showed us the flashbacks which captivated me because it shows the immediate aftermath of Daisy quaking the planet apart. The episode did get a little confusing with the timeline stuff, but there were some great stories in the episode which developed the characters in the episode. This episode did give us another slow-motion Yoyo scene which was awesome to see. I really like those scenes because they're superspeed in a way that we have never seen them before.
The cast of the episode was great. We had Ming Na Wen who was amazing as Melinda May in the episode. I enjoyed seeing the character parent Robin, in both the past and future, and it showed a new side of the character. Also starring in the episode was Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson), Chloe Bennet (Daisy/ Quake), Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Jeff Ward (Deke), Joel Stoffer (Enoch), Michael McGrady (Samuel Voss), Ava Kolker (young Robin), Willow Hale (old Robin), Coy Stewart (Flint), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Yoyo Rodriguez), Henry Simmons (Alphonso Mack), Florence Faivre (Sinara), and Dominic Rains (Kasius).
In conclusion, this episode of Agents of SHIELD was a relatively well-made episode which expanded upon the lore of the season with the flashbacks which kept me as a viewer captivated. The tease at the end gets me excited for what is to come in the rest of the season. I will give this episode a 9 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, take care.
