SPIDERMAN: INTO THE SPIDERVERSE TRAILER BREAKDOWN
To start off we find Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), who is just an average teen in New York, as we explore his family dynamic. We see that he has a healthy relationship with his mother and father, and his father, Jefferson Davis (Brian Tyree Henry), is a cop, so as we see later in the trailer we see that his father may cause some unintentional threats to the character, especially as we see his view towards Spiderman in the car ride to school.
In this scene, we see the Green Goblin of Mile's universe, who is much bigger, and monster like compared to the regular Peter parker's Norman Osborne. There was an episode of the Ultimate Spiderman universe where Miles is fighting the prime Green Goblin, but then the ultimate large Green Goblin (seen above) enters and fights them both, and then prime Peter comes and joins. It appears this may be happening here, where the alternate Peter fights his Green Goblin and the ultimate Green Goblin.
This next scene introduces Miles to Peter Parker (Jake Johnson). Miles talks about the different "universe" because, in the comics, Peter Parker meets Miles in an alternate universe where their Peter Parker/ Spiderman died, who inspired Miles to become the Web-slinger. So this film appears to have an alternate Peter Parker coming into Mile's universe.
This shot shows Miles approaching a radioactive spider. This is most likely how Miles gets his powers, he finds a random Oscrop experimented Spider on the ground which bits him. It is a change from the comics, where Miles's uncle, Aaron Davis (AKA the Prowler) who works at Oscorp, accidentally brings a radioactive spider home which bits Miles who visits his uncle. The Prowler is going to be in the film, but it seems like they aren't going to tie him into Mile's origin of powers.
Miles goes to Peter's lair, where we see all his suits. This Peter Parker is much older than what we have seen, as seen by the look of Peter, and also the number of suits he has gone through. In the middle is the classic Spiderman suit, and on the left, it appears that the suit is the "Electro-Proof" suit from the comics. That was the closest parallel I could find, and that was because of the arm and leg padding. On the right, it appears that the suit is a type of stealth suit, which has the red and black color scheme like Mile's main suit.
Peter tells Miles that he'll train him while they have burgers. Looking at Peter over here, he looks superiorly older than any iteration big screen version of the character seen before. Peter here looks like he is hitting 40, if not already hit it, and even then, a 40-year-old who has not aged well. It is most likely the animation style that is being done here, to emphasize the age difference between Peter and Miles. I don't think that Peter here has experienced the loss of Mary Jane and their child, because this is a kids film, and that would be too dark to even mention.
But I do like this scene in the trailer, Peter doesn't have any money on him for the burgers.
In this shot we see Peter Parker fighting the Prowler, who is Mile's uncle. He might be the main villain of the film, creating a family-centric story, or he will just be a side villain. We can tell that this is Peter Parker because he looks taller, and is more buff. Remeber, Miles is only around 13 in this film so he would look a little scrawnier in the classic Spiderman suit as we will see him in, in this film.
On the suit, there are some claw marks, most likely from this fight. However, it reminds me of the claw marks in Captain America's shield from Black Panther in Civil War.
Here we see Miles dawning the classic red and blue Spiderman suit, and you can see it looks a little baggier on him. In the scene we see Mile's father hold up Miles, trying to take down a vigilante who he doesn't know is his son. Miles will get away, however, it will be interesting to see how this influences the family dynamic Miles has with his father.
I love this scene, Mile's father embarrassing Miles in front of the whole school asking him to say 'I love you too." This is an awesome way to show the comedy of the film, with the tools that the characters have. With Miles in uniform, it appears that that the character is going to a preparatory school and this is his first day. In the comics, Miles got into a preparatory school at the beginning of his origin, so that is being incorporated into that.
The last scene has Peter and Miles training in this forest where another Spider-person shows up and its Spider Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld). Everyone was speculating her appearance in the film, and here she is, in the flesh. In the comics, Spider Gwen is a version of Gwen Stacy who saw Peter Parker die, instead of the other way around. And she has the spider powers. I am curious as to how the character enter's the ultimate universe? It seems like it will be a major part of the threat of the film.
Overall, this trailer for Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse is awesome, as it shows off not too much of the story, but some elements, like the Miles and Peter story, and how this film is focusing on Miles meeting his hero, while also introducing the Spiderverse which is exciting.
