ARROW "LIFE SENTENCE" REVIEW

Season 6 Episode 23:

Hey everyone, we are back with the season finale of Arrow, directed by James Bamford. This episode wraps up some arcs for some characters, all the while setting up a load of stories for season seven. Spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.

Working with the FBI, team Arrow takes out the Diaz controlled police officers in the Star City police station. With the FBI in Star City with the consent of Mayor Quentin Lance, Diaz finds out and threatens to kill Laurel if the FBI doesn't leave Star City. Anatoly gets a location on Diaz, which he gives Oliver. Anatoly also says that Diaz has the "Longbow Hunters". Team Arrow and the FBI go to the location, however, Rene, Samanda, and another FBI agent are caught in a laser trap. Thinking he's going to die, Rene calls his daughter, Zoe. Felicity disables the lasers, and Rene and the others escape as the building explodes.

Back at the police station, Oliver makes amends with Rene. Quentin gets a call from Diaz, as he will make a decision, is he sees Laurel. Oliver and Quentin have a talk as Quentin tells Oliver that he has a pacemaker. Quentin meets with Diaz, as he is taken to the same cell as Laurel. Samanda is willing to let Laurel die, as she is not the mission. Diaz shoots Quentin, as team Arrow and the FBI show up to fight Diaz and his forces. Dinah and Laurel help Quentin to get out. On the rooftop, Oliver fights Diaz, as he manages to scan his hard drive. Laurel shows up and Canary cries Diaz off the roof and into a river.

At the hospital, Rene has a talk with Quentin. Oliver also has a talk with Quentin telling him he is his second father. Quentin goes into surgery. Laurel calls up Sara who shows up and the two meet each other for the first time. Samanda and the FBI show up and arrest Oliver. As a part of the deal, the FBI would help take down Diaz, and not arrest anyone else if Oliver gets arrested. Dr. Schwartz shows up and tells the team that Quentin passed away. Everyone cries as Oliver gets taken away. At the police station,n Oliver has a talk with Felicity saying that he made this deal so William could at least have one parent. William comes in as he says goodbye to his father. Oliver is taken away and in front of a group of reports, Oliver admits that he is the Green Arrow and that everyone else needs to continue fighting. Oliver is taken to prison and his cell closes.

Overall, this episode of Arrow was a satisfying season finale. This is arguably one of the best episodes of the season. I haven't been the biggest fan of this season, or more the second half of this season, however. this finale was a brilliantly made episode. The episode had a lot of great scenes, most of which had characters reconciling, which was great to see because it felt like the conflict between the characters was stretched out for too long.

The episode has a lot of set up for the next season. The major one was Oliver going to prison, with his identity revealed. It seems like in season six, we will see the first couple of episodes with Oliver in prison. It would be awesome if we saw the season seven villain evolve from this prison. But speaking of villains, we will see Diaz return someday, maybe as the first villain of season seven. Oliver specifically cleared out Roy's name, which means it's easier for him to come back in season seven, which he will. It also seems like, for the first part of season seven, John will be the Green Arrow, leading the United Arrow team.

This episode said goodbye to Paul Blackthorne as Quentin to Arrow. We knew that the actor was leaving, and with the reveal that Sara would be in this episode, I kind of saw where this was going, but it was still sad seeing it play out on screen. With the talks between him and Oliver throughout the episode, it made for an even more devastating death.

The cast of the episode was brilliant. Everone bought their best skills to this episode, and it was sad seeing everyone's reactions to Quentin's death. Starring in the episode we had Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/ Green Arrow), Emilly Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), David Ramsey (John Diggle/ Spartan), Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake/ Black Canary), Rick Gonzalez (Rene Ramirez/ Wilddog), Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt/ Mr. Teriffic), David Nykl (Anatoly Knyazev), Jack Moore (William Queen), Venus Terzo (Dr. Schwartz), Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance/ Black Siren), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/ White Canary), Kirk Acevedo (Ricardo Diaz).

In conclusion, this episode of Arrow was a great season finale, especially for a season which did fail at times. With an emotional death, and a brilliant cliffhanger which does get me excited for the next season fo Arrow. I will give this episode an 8.5 out of 10.
