AGENTS OF SHILED "PRINCIPIA" REVIEW
Season 5 Episode 13:
Hey everyone, we are back with Agents of SHIELD, and this episode is directed by Brad Turner who delivers a story which focuses on our Agents trying to repair the fear rip in the lighthouse. We also get teases towards Deke and his ancestors. Spoilers ahead for this episode of Agents of SHIELD, let's recap.
The episode opens up with a Werner Von Strucker who is in a mental facility where he stabs his doctor in the hand, however, is taken down. At the present day lighthouse, Yoyo is recovering from her arms being amputated. Fitz tells Coulson that the fear rip in the bottom of the lighthouse won't stay closed forever unless they get Gravitonium to shut it off. The Agents track down some Gravatonium to be tied to one company, "Cybertek". However all the doctors at Cybertek are dead, and one man signed their death certificates, "Tony Caine". Coulson, Daisy, May, and Mack track down Caine and we discover that Caine and Mack used to know each other from school and college. On the Zephyr, the Agents tell Caine that they need to know what happened to the doctors, and Caine told them that he had to reassign the doctor's new identities after their deaths were faked. Mack and Caine to visit one of the doctors as they ask him what happened to the Gravatonium. The doctor tells the two that there was a shipment of Gravatonium on a boat which went missing a couple years ago in a storm. Given an approximate location, Fitz, Simmons, and Deke search with the satellites as to where the boat is.
Werner finds himself in a mysterious facility. There he finds Ruby and he holds a knife up to her. General Hale and some soldiers come down. Hale tells Werner that he can give information on what his father was doing or they can let him go. Wener gets taken away as Hale tells her daughter, Ruby to get inside Werner's head to let him stay. After annoying Fitz, Deke goes to the supply closet of the lighthouse where he eats some Twinkies. Deke sees his mother he says to him "You only need to take small steps to take you in the right direction." which is a quote from her mother. Deke sees her mother get killed by a Kree soldier, as she turns into dust, Deke kills the Kree, and recovers knowing that the fear rip was getting to him. Simmons finds Deke and talks to him. Deke comes to a realization of where the ship is. Upstairs, Deke tells Fitz that with Gravatonium, the ship could have been struck by lightning and could now be in the sky. Giving this information to the Agents on the Zephyr, Coulson and the others see the ship floating in the sky.
Coulson, Daisy, and Mack board the ship as they find that the crew is dead, and the Gravatonium is taken. The three come across a ball of Gravatonium, separated from the rest, and that ball is keeping the ship afloat. Over the coms, Deke the team that they can not touch the Gravatonium, but they can put it in a box, and they will have a minute and a half to get off the ship before it falls. Mack puts the Gravatonium in a box nearby. But then some of Hale's robot agents on the ship awake, and they start to fight the Agents on the boat. Mack fends off the robots as Coulson and Daisy take the Gravatonium and leave for the escape ship. The boat plummets to the ocean as the three Agents escape with the Gravatonium.
General Hale is notified that her robots on the boat were activated. On the Zephyr, Caine tells Mack that he had one hell of a day seeing a robot fight and a flying boat. Caine tells Mack and the others that he will contact them if he finds more information. Caine and Mack part ways. Back at the lighthouse, Simmons helps Yoyo up as Deke hears Simmons say to Yoyo "You only need to take small steps to take you in the right direction.", which leaves Deke dumbfounded. Yoyo, Simmons, Fitz, and Deke greet the others. Mack brings Yoyo some beers and also a robot from the ship, which she can use the arms of. Deke goes with Fitz carrying the Gravatonium, knowing that he is his grandfather. The episode ends with Werner telling Ruby he will stay as she tells him that a team is being developed with him, her, and Carl Creel.
Overal, this episode of Agents of SHIELD was a spectacular episode, from the story that was told and teased as well as the awesome visual effects used. To start off, the main plot was great. I loved diving deeper into Mack's past where we saw MC Mack, which was amazing, especially with all the Don't touch me references. It played well into the episode and character of Mack. The introduction of Caine was interesting, it was great tieing him to the past of Mack as we learn how Mack has become a drastically different person. The episode flat out confirmed that Deke is the grandchild of Simmons and Fitz. And I love the dynamic that the show is going with regarding these characters and their relationship. It is great seeing Deke know about Fitz and Simmons being his grandparents, while they are oblivious to the idea. In the episode there were breathtaking visual effects, I have to agree with Caine with the boat floating in the sky. It looked super awesome and was awesome to look at.
Henry Simmons was fabulous as Mack in the episode. We dived into the past of the character and how he has developed. The use of the Caine character developed that more. There were plenty of awesome scenes with the character in action and the jokes made at him for looking like MC Hammer in high school, which was awesome to see. The rest of the cast of the episode was great. Starring in the episode we had Clarke Gregg (Phil Coulson), Chloe Bennet (Daisy/ Quake), Jake Busey (Tony Caine), Ming Na Wen (Melinda May), Max Osinski (Agent Davis), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Yoyo Rodriguez), Iain De Caestereck (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Jeff Ward (Deke), Dove Cameron (Ruby Hale), Catherine Dent (General Hale), Spencer Treat Clark(Werner Von Strucker), and Brian Patrick Wade (Carl Creel).
In conclusion, this episode of Agents of SHIELD was an exciting one as we saw an awesome story which developed the character of Mack, as well as a plot which starts connecting Deke to the rest of the team in an exciting dynamic which I can't wait to see develop. With great acting and visual effects, this is a spectacular episode. I will give this episode an 8.5 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below.
