THE FLASH "RUN IRIS RUN" PREVIEW
We saw set pictures from the set of the Flash in Vancouver where we saw Candice Patton, who plays Iris West, in a speedster costume. And now it is officially revealed that there will be an Iris West speedster on episode 16 of the Flash season four, which is titled "Run Iris Run". It has been revealed about how Iris gains these speedster abilities. So let's go with that, and spoilers for the Flash season four by the way.
So to start off, this costume looks interesting, to say the least. The purple and navy blue color scheme is something new to the family of Flash costumes. The costume is heavily inspired off the costume of the suit of XS, who is the granddaughter of Iris and Barry. So we can make the conclusion that in the future of the Flash, Jenni is inspired by her grandmother, Iris and wears the same costume. The most notable difference between the XS suit and this suit is the lightning bolt in the center of the suit. Maybe if we ever do see Jenni on the show (visiting the past), she wears the suit with a lightning bolt. In the comics, XS does not wear a mask. so that is a minor addition to the suit, to keep Iris' identity a secret.
But let's get into how Iris gets her powers. In the episode Barry and Iris confront one of the bus Meta-Human, named Melting Pot (Leonardo Nam), who swaps the DNA of Barry and Iris, depowering Barry, and granting Iris superspeed. In the episode, Cisco will most likely make Iris the suit and she will be the one to stop the bus-Meta Human. When the set images of Patton in the suit leaked, many people including myself assumed that Iris was pregnant. If you remember, Cecile got the mind reading powers from getting pregnant, because the extra dark matter DNA from Joe gave Cecile powers. So we assumed the same happened to Iris, with Barry's speedster DNA inside Iris from conceiving a child, Iris gains super speed. But the Meta-Human makes sense, as Cecile still has the powers, and I think that they do not want an extra speedster such as Iris, otherwise the team would be overpowered. That is why Wally went from the Flash to Legends of Tomorrow.
Iris' suit kind of inspires the rest of the Allen family super suits. Of course, the suit is from the granddaughter of Iris in the comics, but the purple color scheme is seen on the Tornado Twins suits, Remeber, the mystery coffee shop girl, played by Jessica Parker Kennedy, is speculated to be Dawn Allen, the daughter of Barry and Iris. So it is possible that she appears in the episode, witnessing her mother as a hero, thus using the color scheme of her suit for her own, and then eventually when she has a daughter. Jenni, Dawn will hand down the super suit her mother once wore to her daughter, thus the XS suit. We can do more Dawn Allen mystery girl theories later on and how she will fit into season four and beyond later on when we get more clues.
In conclusion, this suit reveals of Iris is awesome. I am excited to see the episode where Iris gets powers, and seeing the only person on team Flash who doesn't have powers, get powers for an episode.
