RIVERDALE "THE RIVERS EDGE" REVIEW

Chapter One:

Riverdale premiered tonight, and this show is really interesting, so spoilers ahead and let's get into the review, this is going to be the same structure as my other recaps where I am going to go over the plot points individually and do the ending at the end of them all.

We have a prolog in the show which is Cheryl Blossom and her brother Jason going out for a boat ride until Jason 'drowns"
The episode is basically about schools back on in Riverdale, Archie comes back all buff, so does new girl, Veronica, she gets on Archie and Betty, and the two girls try out for cheerleading and get in after standing up to Cheryl and the three go to the semi-formal.They then go to an afterparty at Cheryl's where Archie and Veronica go play seven minutes in heaven where they do kiss, but when they come ou of the closet Betty left the party and Archie goes around looking for her, he bumps in Jughead, but Archie finds Betty and tries to apologize but she rejects as Archie doesn't know how to feel about her.

In the episode Archie was trying to pursue his interest in music in school, so he asked his teacher, Mrs Grundy who for listens, but she was reluctant after she had an affair with Archie in the holidays and they were by the river together the morning Jason was murdered and they heard a gunshot, and they promised to never tell anyone.

The ending of the episode is these two guys going by the river where they discover the body of Jason with a bullet hole in his head.
This was obviously the big starter topic of the season, which will be who killed Jason, which is clearly obvious, but the core of the show will hopefully have Archie and his circle of friends solve this crime.

But the cast in this show is great, KJ Apa is awesome as Archie, both Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes were also well portrayed and I can't wait to see more of them.
And Madelaine Petsch was so great, the character of Cheryl is so complex and she will make for a really great antagonist.

So this episode of Riverdale is a solid start to a series, I know where the show is going to be heading, but all the twist and turns it will take to get there is interesting. There were a couple things I liked and disliked about the episode, the one thing that I disliked the most was some of the cinematography, especially at the assembly where there were the zooming close-ups of Archie and Mrs. Grundy, it was kind of off-putting, I get that it was trying to do something like the comics, but it didn't work, but that is ultimately a nitpick.but the cast of the show is great, the storyline is interesting and I am really loving this grounded take on the Archie comics.I will give this episode an 8 out of 10.
When I post the reviews for the show might change to tomorrow, but that will be in a couple weeks when legion starts.I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, take care.

JB Moranville was a producer on Riverdale and he sadly passed away in October, so rest in peace JB Moranville.
