LEGENDS OF TOMORROW "HERE I GO AGAIN" REVIEW

Season 3 Episode 11:

Hey, everyone, we are back with a brand new episode review of Legends of Tomorrow, following its return. This Ground-Hog Day inspired/ heavily referenced episode, takes Zari Tomaz on a time loop with the Waverider set to explode each hour. Spoilers ahead for the episode, as we will recap, review, and talk about the insane end scene.

Zari Tomaz starts to build an algorithm for Gideon so she can locate loopholes in history. When returning from a mission, Mick destroys a 70's tape, as an Abba dressed Sara tells Zari to stop her tampering and fix and broken Gideon. Annoyed at Sara's attitude towards her, Zari goes to repair Gideon as directed, however she gets some green liquid on her, and then she sees the Waverider exploding. Zari wakes up from Sara telling her off like she did an hour ago. Not knowing what is going on, Zari repeats the same process and gets herself killed in the explosion, waking up again. Zari finds Nate and tells him what is going on. Nate realizes that Bill Murray style,  Zari is in a Ground-Hog Day situation, Nate does a quick rundown of the film. Nate tells Zari to say to him "Groundhog Day", then the Waverider explodes. When waking up again, Zari immediately goes to Nate and tells him "Hedgehog Day", but then is corrected by Nate. Zari and Nate start to investigate start to investigate where the bomb is coming from. The two start to investigate members of the team about who is setting off the bomb.

When investigating Mick, Zari and Nate discover that he has a secret box. With Nate being killed in a series of traps, Zari lives through the loop to try access this box. Nate and Zari discover that Mick is writing a novel about a Sci-Fi romance. Crossing Mick off their list of potential suspects, Nate and Zari cheek on Amaya. The two find out that Amaya got the mind-zapping tool. Nate confronts her and learns that she wants to get rid of the memory they had of sneaking off and having sex on their mission. Nate and Amaya seduce each other and have sex, while Zari goes off to confront Ray. Knowing that he is up to something, Ray comes clean and tells Zari that Constantine told him to kill Sara if Mallus comes back. Zari tells Ray about her situation, thinking that Mallus could cause the explosion, Ray and Zari try to investigate Sara. Ray shrinks down Zari and himself as the two fly to the jump ship to find Sara. The two see that Sara is talking to Agent Ava Shape who is crushing on Sara. Sara goes on to talk about how Zari isn't listening to her, even though she wants to as she knows she means well, to herself and the team. Thinking there is a fly around, Sara smashed Ray and Zari.

With nothing left to do, Zari goes to Nate for advice as he tells her that she needs to have a fun montage with no consequences. So Zari goes around, eating Mick's donuts, reading his story, using his heat gun, trying on the other heroes suits from Citizen Steel to Hawkgirl, and playing the violin. After exhausting every possibility, Zari decides she needs to end it all. In the next loop, Zari grabs a gun and holds it to her head. Sara tries to talk Zari out from killing herself. Zari pulls the trigger, but there are not bullets. The team finds Agent Gary in the trash compactor, who had a device that created the time loops, however, it gets destroyed. Gary and the Legends try to make a plan. Zari sees the mixtape Mick destroyed, however, she sees that there is a bomb inside it. Zari quickly grabs the tape and locks herself with the shield in the office. Knowing she will sacrifice herself saving the day, Zari tells each of the Legends members the lessons she learned from them in all the loops.

The timer on the bomb goes to zero, however, nothing happens. Everyone disappears and the human manifestation of Gideon appears. Gideon tells Zari that when the green liquid went onto her, she was poisoned, and fell into a coma in the med bay. Gideon transported Zari's consciousness to the mainframe so she could learn a lesson about herself and her team, all of the truths she learned were true. Awakening of from her coma, Zari is confronted by Sara and Ray. Zari makes Ray tell Sara what Constantine told her. Zari tells Mick to change the ending of his novel, and she tells Nate and Amaya to just embrace their relationship and not have sex on missions. Zari goes to play the violin as she did in the coma. Sara has a talk with Zari and tells her that after she is done with Mallus, which they need Zari to help do, Sara will change her future by saving Zari's past, by saving her family. The episode ends in the Yunnan Province, in China where we find Wally West meditating in a temple. Rip Hunter approaches Wally and tells him that he needs his help.

Overall, this was such a fun episode. I will talk about the episode and then get into Kid Flash stuff. But the episode was a neat episode that was more of a stand-alone episode which works earlier in the season, rather than later when the story is ramping up. The use of having Zari as the protagonists in the Groundhogs Day situation was brilliant. The episode worked as more of a journey for the character to bond with the team. It was an absolutely creative way to speed up the process of Zari fitting into the team, instead of her feeling like an outsider. That was kind of a problem with the character, she kind of only had a small friendship with Amaya, but know it seems more logical as to why she is helping the Legends because she cares about the characters. In the coma, she saw how the team viewed Zari as a friend when Zari didn't see herself as a friend of the Legends.

The episode had some great scenes. I liked the idea that Nate was the guy that guided Zari through the episode, telling her about Groundhog Day. It made for a neat duo in the episode, and I loved all the scenes of Zari having to fill Nate in. The investigation part of the episode was to make Zari see the different sides of the characters, again making that fitting into the team arc faster. I did love that montage of Zari goffing around in the loops. I loved how Zari wore the Hawkgirl mask, it seemed like Kendra didn't take all her gear. The montage was great in the sense where is showed some funny gags, but was not dragged out for too long.

But let's talk about the ending, best scene in the episode. We see Rip Hunter recruit Wally. Last time we saw Wally was in Supergirl 308 (Crisis on Earth-X part 1). After that in the Flash 309, we learn from Joe that Wally was in Cambodia. So it seems like Wally has been going on a journey of self-discovery throughout Asia. High chance that Wally did not pay for travel. We know that Rip Hunter escaped from custody from the Time Bearau, so it seems like Rip now wants Wally to help him take down Mallus. The reason why Rip is going after Wally is that he was a hero that wasn't doing anything. That was the point in real life of him going on Legends. There was use for him on the Flash. With Wally, it seems as though, Rip could fight the Legends if they try to fight him.

But for fun, let's quickly go through the encounters Wally has had with the Legends. In the 2016 Invasion crossover, Wally fought a brainwashed Sara before getting injured by her. The following year, in the 2017 crossover, Wally would've met, Firestorm [RIP], Sara, and Mick at Iris' and Barry's wedding.

The cast of the episode was great. We, of course, had Tala Ashe in the lead playing Zari Tomaz. Reflecting on the episode, she was my favorite character. The character was more interesting and likable in this episode. That had to do with the acting efforts of Ashe who played the character in her evolution perfectly, from not really liking the Legends to bring their friends. The rest of the cast in the episode was great as always. Starring in the episode we had Nick Zano (Nate/ Steel), Caity Lotz (Sara/ White Canary), Brandon Routh (Ray/ the Atom), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Amaya/Vixen)Dominic Purcell (Mick/ Heatwave), Jes Macallan (Ava Sharpe), Amy Louise Pemberton (Gideon), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), and Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West/ Kid Flash).

In conclusion, this episode of Legends of Tomorrow was an entertaining episode. With this Groundhog Day episode, we saw Zari take lead in connecting with the Legends on a personal note. The way the character was directed and portrayed in the episode was neat in the way that is shown an evolution of the character. The director of the episode, Ben Hernandez Bay, did an excellent job is making a fun and exciting episode of Legends of Tomorrow, making the new character fit like an old one, to make way for a new Legend. I will give this episode of Legends of Tomorrow an 8.75 out of 10. I would love to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below.
