SUPERGIRL "LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES" REVIEW

Season 3 Episode 10:

We are back with brand new episodes of Supergirl in 2018, and this episode we see the introduction of new Legion of Superhero characters such as Brainiac Five, as we see how everyone is coping with Supergirl's defeat from the last episode, and how everyone has to gather to stop Reign and her actions without the girl of steel. Spoilers for the episode ahead, let's recap.

The episode opens in Kara's loft in her mind where she is greeted by Brainiac Five, a member of the Legion of Superheroes. Brainy tells Kara that she is in a coma and she needs to exit her apartment to leave her a coma since her brain is in shape, however, Kara struggles to do so and creates a mess with her laser eyes.

Meanwhile, Reign wrecks havoc along national City by executing criminals, giving a message to everyone that people who harbor sinners are also guilty, and she will kill them. Mon tells Alex that he and the Legion can not help because they have a mission to fulfill in the future. Winn suggests that the DEO confronts Reign and uses kryptonite against Reign, so the DEO gets to work in preparing weapons. Meanwhile, Lena wants to tell Kara that she and James are dating. So James calls Winn who gets J'onn to shapeshift to a sick Kara who gets visited by Alex who breaks the news.

J'onn, Alex, and the other DEO agents orchestrate a bank robbery where reign shows up. Everyone brings out their kryptonite and red sun weapons and try to use them on Reing, including some Kryptonite chains. Reign does not feel the pain as she breaks Alex's foot and leaves the scene.

Back at the Legion ship where Kara is in a coma, Alex visits kara and is sorry for the poor advice that she gave Kara. Winn suggests that the Kryptonite needs to be directly inserted into Reing, but there is no one strong enough to do so. Back in Kara's mind loft, she cleans up a mess she made and then she suggests to Brainy that the stuff in her loft is there because her subconscious is trying to tell her something. Kara finds an image of a cat she once knew, and the cat appears in her mind. She tells brainy that the cat made her feel more human as she connected with it.

Back in the real world, Reign is attacking a prison. Irma convinces Mon that the Legion should help so they do, they all suit up, including Brainy who has been in Kara's mind and in the real world the whole time. In the prison, Reign does not kill Coville, the Kryptonian cult leader, as he is a follower of Reign. Brainy pilots the Legion ship, playing "Livin' on a prayer" to get Reing's attention, which works. Irma and Mon start to fight Reign as she whoops their ass. Martian Manhunter comes to fight but gets knocked down after running Reign into the ground. Irma uses her telekineses to protect Mon in s bubble But Reing starts to charge through the bubble.

In Kara's mind, Kara sees that Brainy is firing making gestures of firing canons, as she realizes that he is fighting Reign. Brainy tells Kara that Alex said that "Kara is her favorite person" in the real world. Brainy then leaves Kara's mind. Kara then realizes she needs to ber herself. She finds her glasses in her mind and then finds a key as she opens her loft door and awakes in the real world. Kara gets up slowly as she flies out to save her friends. Kara takes the Kryptonite injection and knocks down Reing and injects the Kryptonite in Reign. Reign is slowing dying however she flies away

Back at the DEO, Kara meets Brainy in real life and she reconciles with Mon. Alex and Kara also have a talk at home. The episode ends with reign be awoken in her fortress where Coville is. The hooded master of Reign tells that Reign has friends of her own.

This episode of Supergirl was the absolute greatest way to start off the back half of the season. This may be on of my favorite Supergirl episodes. From the opening scene of the episode, the cinematography looked amazing, from the zooms and the position of the camera, the production quality on the episode looked like it was dialed to 11. I have complained about the camera work in Supergirl before, but in this episode, there was nothing to complain about in terms of that. The episode also introduced a brand new character, Brainiac Five, or Brainy. The character was a fun interesting character, who was definitely a highlight. I liked the way the character interacted with Supergirl, it was fun and playful, fitting the tone the show needs. If there is a downfall in the episode, it was the Lena and James storyline. It was ultimately unnecessary and felt more or less awkward. But other than that this was a great episode.

Jesse Rath played Brainiac Five in the episode and was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed the presence of the charcter and how he fitted into the tone of the show. The rest of the cast was great as always, we had Chris Wood (Mon-El), Amy Jackson (Irma/ Saturn Girl), Melissa Benoist (Kara Danvers/ Supergirl), Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers), David Harewood (J'onn/ Martian Manhunter), Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott), Mechad Brooks (James Olsen), Katie McGrath (Lena Luthor), Chad Lowe (Thomas Coville), Emma Tremblay (Ruby Arias), and Odette Annable (Sam Arias/ Reign).

In conclusion, this episode of Supergirl was an amazing way to start off the season. I was pleased with the production quality in the episode, with the cinematography and the music, and I thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of the new character, Brainiac Five. I will give this episode of Supergirl a 9 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode, what was your favorite scene? please comment below.
