RIVERDALE "THE WRESTLER" REVIEW
Chapter 24:
Hey, everyone, we are back with a brand new episode of Riverdale, and to be honest, not a whole lot happened in the episode, there were three main stories, which I will recap individually. So spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.
Starting off with Archie Andrews. Told by Agents Admas to get closer to Hiram, Archie asks Veronica how he can warm up to Hiram. Veronica tells Archie that he should try for the Wrestling team as Hiram was once a wrestler. At trials, Archie gets his ass handed to him by Kevin, who eventually starts to train him. One day at practice, Hiram does a wrestling demonstration on Archie. The demo, Hiram pins Archie to the ground and whispers to him "I will always win". Even with the bad motivation, Archie continued to practice.
Meanwhile, Betty Cooper is trying to get to know her long-lost brother, Chic. Betty and Kevin do some searching on the internet and learn that Chic is an adult film star. Betty gives Chic a laptop so he can continue to work after his laptop was stolen. Betty decides to keep Chic's profession a secret. In Riverdale high, Jughead Jones learns from Toni Topaz's grandfather, Thomas Topaz, that Pickens, the man who "founded" Riverdale, was a murderer who slaughtered a village for land as he was hired by the Blossom "great, great grand Papi".
With the Picken's day festival in Riverdale, Veronica performs a song without Jossie, however in the middle of the performance, Toni, Jughead, and the other Serpents come to the festival with posters and banners talking about how Pickens was a murderer and the dead need to be honored. As Picken's day is a Lodge industry-sponsored event, Hiram steps up and congratulates Toni on shining light on the history of Pickens day.
Later that day at the Cooper house, Chic tells Betty that he does what he does to control the darkness inside of him, and Betty asks to show him how. Meanwhile, Archie has a talk with Hiram and Hiram offers Archie and apprenticeship in Lodge industries, as Archie ignores a call from Agent Adams. The episode ends with Hermione, Hiram, the Mayor and Sheriff Keller looking at a headless Picken's statue as they are thinking of blaming the serpents for the vandalism, creating a civil war.
Overall, this episode of Riverdale felt kind of slow. I would be more excited about the show if there were more exciting plots with all the characters, and not just Archie, at this point in the season, Archie is the only one who has scenes that excite me, because there are twist and turns that could happen at any second with a villain such as Hiram. Like that reveal that Hiram hates Archie because Fred hooked up with Hermione was great, we did not know Hiram knew that, and it shows how much of a fearsome villain Hiram is because he has his hands deep in everything that has happened. In the other plots, there is nothing to be excited about, something that made the first season and a half so great. I really hope the show brings the Black Hood around soon. The Black Hood was unpredictable and could threaten anyone of our heroes at any moment, or be any one of our heroes. In the past couple of episodes, it was revealed that Betty and Archie believe that the Black Hood is not yet gone, and that story desperately needs to continue. But until then we have Hiram and his wrestling to fear.
The cast of the episode was great as usual, I liked the different groupings of the characters that were in the episode, I wish they all had some type of imminent threat. But starring in the episode we had KJ Apa (Archie Andrews), Mark Consuelos (Hiram Lodge), Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge), Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge), Luke Perry (Fred Andrews), John Behlmann (Agent Arthur Adams), Cassey Cott (Kevin Keller), Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), Hart Denton (Chic Cooper), Mädchen Amick (Alice Cooper), Lochlyn Munro (Hal Cooper), Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones), Vanessa Morgan (Toni Topaz), Graham Greene (Thomas Topaz), Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom).
In conclusion, this episode of Riverdale was a slow episode, and it shows that the season is more or less is at a halt. I guess this is what happens with the episode count increasing. Although the episode was not too full, the Archie and Hiram storyline definitely was a highlight as it brings such a great antagonist in the story and has me asking questions after every scene. I will give this episode of Riverdale a 7 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the season by dropping a comment below.
