RIVERDALE "TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE" REVIEW
Chapter 20:
Hey, everyone, we are back finally after two weeks with Riverdale and this episode is a different structured episode with the episode following three different groups of characters. So spoilers is ahead for the episode, let’s recap.
The episode opens up with the town of Riverdale learning about the Black Hoods test for the town. We then go on an adventure with Jughead and Archie. Jughead gets a call from Penny Peabody who asks him for the favor she wanted. Jughead refuses her offer, but she manages to sway Jughead and she tells him that his father, FP, got bet up in prison. Jughead gets Archie to deliver a box that they got to a location. On their drive, the truck breaks down so Archie calls some services. A truck pulls over and a man named Farmer McGinty comes out and offers help to Jughead and Archie. Jughead goes with the McGinty to deliver their box. On their trip, Jughead and McGinty talk about a previous serial killer in Riverdale. McGinty and Jughead go to a nearby diner where McGinty gets a meal. McGinty tells Jughead to pay for it, put Jughead has no money. Archie pulls up with the repaired truck and pays for the meal and leaves with Jughead and his box. Archie and Jughead go to a place where they deliver the package. The next day Jughead visits his father in prison and realizes he was not bet up. Jughead has a talk with Penny who tells him that he is her new delivery boy and that she has footage of Jughead and Archie delivering the package which she will give to the police if Jughead does not obey her.
While that was happening, Josie was practicing music late at night a school, while the janitor was roaming around. When Josie comes home she finds that her mother does not want her out late. Later at school, Josie finds a gifted bear in her locker. Josie then finds a romance with a new Chuck Clayton, one who has moved on from his douche bag ways. Josie tells Cheryl about Chuck, and Cheryl doesn't trust Chuck and his new persona. One late night Josie goes with Chuck to Pops' diner. At the diner, the Mayor (Josie's mother) finds Josie and brings her home as she does not want her late out. At home, Mayor McCoy tells Josie that she isn't the only one who has gotten death threats from the Black Hood, but Josie has as well. The next day at school Josie finds a drawing of her in her locker and she finds a pigs heart in a box. She freaks and tells Cheryl who blames Chuck. We later discover that Chuck gets locked up with no trial because of what he supposedly did. We then see Cheryl at home drawing a picture of her and Josie in the same style as the one that was in Josie's locker.
Also while that was happening Veronica and Betty go on an adventure. Betty speculates that Sheriff Keller is the Black Hood, but Veronica speculates that the Sheriff is having an affair. Betty does some searching for answers at the police station but finds nothing. Veronica has a sleepover at Kevin's house where she finds that the office is locked. Veronica also sees that the Sheriff is working out. At school, Veronica tells Bety about the locked office, so Betty uses the Keller's spear key to get into the house where she goes into the office to find that the Sheriff has a board searching for who the Black Hood is. Betty is caught by Keller and is taken to the police station where Hal apologizes. Later that night Betty and Veronica stalk Sheriff Keller and find him leave his house in the middle of the night. The two follow him in their car and they see that the Sheriff is having an affair with Mayor McCoy. Veronica is proven right, and the two go to Pop's diner. At the diner, Pops gets a call from the Black Hood which tells the town that they failed his test and that everyone in Riverdale is guilty.
So to start off the Sheriff is obviously the Black Hood. The Betty investigation was to throw everyone off. So in the episode, Betty is found by the Sheriff breaking the law, as his sick game is for Betty it is clear why he did not kill, Betty, however, if it were someone else I think there would have been a different story. The board in Keller’s house may be to see if any evidence leads to him being the Black Hood. At the end of the episode, we see that Keller is having got an affair, a sin of adultery, the same thing Fred was shot for. So to make sure that it doesn’t look suspicious that Keller isn’t Lille for his sin, the Black Hood is going to try to kill everyone, and ‘coincidentally’ have to miss the people who are actually sinning, such as Keller.
Thee cast in the episode was great, I liked the increased attention Josie got in the episode as the character has been underdeveloped, and this episode fixed that which was great, Ashleigh Murray was great in the episode. The rest of the cast in the episode was exceptional as we had KJ Apa (Archie Andrews), Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones), Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge), Jordan Calloway (Chuck Clayton), Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom), Cassey Cott (Kevin Keller), Robin Givens, (Mayor McCoy), Martin Cummins (Sheriff Tom Keller), Tony Todd (Farmer McGinty), Brit Morgan (Penny Peabody), Alvin Sanders (Pops Tate), and Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones).
In conclusion, this episode of Riverdale was an interesting episode as it focuses on different groups of characters all of which had exciting stories and character development. I will give the episode an 8.5 out of 10. Please comment on your favorite scene from the episode or any Black Hood theory you may have. As always thanks for reading, take care.
