LEGENDS OF TOMORROW "WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE" REVIEW
Season 3 Episode 7:
Hey, everyone, we are back with a brand new episode of Legends of Tomorrow where the team travels to Vietnam where we see an old villain of the Flash come into the show. So spoilers ahead of the episode let's recap.
The episode focuses on the team going to Vietnam in 1967 to fix a level eight anachronism. With Sara asleep, Jax takes charge of the mission and tells Ray, Zari, and Amaya to act as journalist to see what the anachronism is, where they find out that the anachronism has taken US soldiers. Meanwhile Nate and Mick go out into the field of Nam. On the field, Mick and Nate run into Mick's father, Dick Rory who is a soldier.
Meanwhile, Jax finds out that Martin is getter no the help of Issacs Newton to try figure out how to break up the Firestorm matrix. Back in Nam, Amaya, Ray, and Zari are led by a woman to a mysterious being who is controlling people from both sides of the war. The Legends have their communication signals jammed as they discover that Gorilla Grodd is Vietnam and is controlling people for his own good.
Zari and Ray try to to get the communications back up while Amaya tries to reason with Grodd. With coms back up Nate tells Ray and Zari about Mick's dad. Jax also contacts the team on the coms where he tells them that the anachronism causes World War Three. Nate gets knocked out by Dick who goes with Mick and his squad to take down the mystery that is Grodd.
In Nam, president Johnson arrives so Jax goes out to try to save him from being killed to prevent WWIII. With Amaya, she gets a vision of the awful experiences Grodd had, so she offers him a deal that she can take Grodd back to a time before humanity to live out his days, which Grodd accepts. However, Dick and his army attack Grodd who goes on a rampage mode and starts attacking the soldiers and then moves to attack the Waverider to create a Gorilla Planet at the beginning of time, so Ray warns Martin about Grodd's plan.
Jax gets off the Waverider to save president Johnson from being killed, while, Ray, Amaya, Zari, and Nate are rounded up by Dick who is about to kill them, however, Mick stops him and tells him that if he does this it will haunt him forever. So Dick stops and lets the Legends go. Meanwhile, Grodd attacks the Waverider to take control of it, so he mind controls Sara inside to attack Matin, however, Newton stops Sara. A US airstrike is called in and Grodd nearly falls into an inferno before being teleported away.
Mick has a goodbye to his father and the Legends leave Nam. On the Waverider, Sara wakes up and congratulates the team on their success. The episode ends in 2017 where Damien Darhk recruits Grodd to be a part of his team.
Overall this was a fun episode which had a lot of awesome actions scenes and stories going on. I enjoyed Jax saving the president and all the Gorilla Grodd stuff. It was also fun to see Mick meet his father, Dick, before he knew him in the crazy light he saw him. That was one of the best parts of the episode, Mick meeting Dick and Mick revealing how he viewed his father and getting a glimpse into Mick's past was interesting. But in the episode, Ray and Zari are figuring out that the anachronisms are targeting themselves, or their past selves. So it seems like Mallus is trying to target the Legends somehow.
The cast of the episode was great, the stand out of the episode was Dominic Purcell as Heatwave. It was great seeing the character be developed tying loose ends it’s his father and solving his “daddy issues”. The character has been one of the best parts of the show and definitely deserves more screen time like this episode. The rest of the cast in the episode was great we had Caity Lotz (Sara/ White Canary), Brandon Routh (Ray/ the Atom), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Amaya/Vixen), Nick Zano (Nate/ Citizen Steel), Tala Ashe (Zari Tomaz), Evan Jones (Dick Rory), David Sobolov (Gorilla Grodd), and Neal McDonough (Damien Darhk).
In conclusion, this episode of Legends of tomorrow was a fun adventure which bought Mick to the spotlight as well as introducing Gorilla Grodd to the show. I am excited about the rest of the season. I will give this episode an 8 out of 10. Please comment on your thoughts on the episode down below. Next week is the crossover, so be sure to watch Supergirl and Arrow on Monday the 27th of November and then the Flash and Legends on the 28th of November. Always thanks for reading, take care.
