ANTMAN AND THE WASP SYNOPSIS BREAKDOWN
Today we got a small little promotional teaser showing us that Ant-Man and the Wasp is now going into production. I feel like Marvel is creating more behind the scenes teasers, not showing off any footage from the film, but it is still content.
We now have a synopsis of the film, so here it is below:
The synopsis sound very interesting. The primary thing to note here is the timeline. Even though Ant-Man and the Wasp will come out July 2018, after Infinity War, the film may, in fact, take place before the big team up. Not because Infinity War was nowhere to be seen in the synopsis, but just not create too much confusion, because, in Infinity War, there may be some crazy stuff that will go down, which I don't think Ant-man could shake off.
Other evidence to support this is that the synopsis states that his actions in Civil War will play into the sequel. In Civil War, he became a fugitive, however, if he joined the Avengers in Infinity War, he would be redeemed as a Hero, and wouldn't have to deal with the problem of being a criminal again.
The synopsis says that Ant-Man and the Wasp will have to face "secrets from their past" this could be referring to Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp (Michelle Pfeiffer), Catwoman herself, being a major role in the film, possibly the villain, which would be really interesting, but that could be a little far off. An interesting thing, the actress they cast isn't too old, so it seems like Wasp in the micro-verse ages really well. One of the villains of the film confirmed at San Diego Comic Con was Ghost, he is an Iron Man villain, but I don't believe she is the main villain of the film.
The character of the Wasp, played by Evangeline Lilly will make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this film. At the end of Ant-Man, she was presented a suit by her father. So between 2015 and the time this film picks up, which is nearly 2018, I assume she would have finished working on the suit and has had some time to use the suit. Wasp is skipping Infinity War but will appear in the fourth Avengers film in 2019.
Antman himself in the film, may not be Ant-man in the film, I would say that he would be Giant Man for a bit of the film, as he got the new ability. You can see it in use in this concept art that was released which features both Antman and the Wasp using their powers against a military.
If you remember back, SHIELD wanted the Pym particles (The chemical that can manipulate the mass of objects, the substance that powers the Antman and Wasp suits to shrink and grow) so this could be what they are doing once again, going to attack Ant-man and the Wasp for the particles. They could have information about Janet Van Dyne that they could trade for the Pym particles.
There have been a lot of casting announcements from the film, most of which I didn't cover, as they were all announced individually, but let's go through the cast joining the sequel now:
- Hope Van Dyne/Wasp- Evangeline Lilly
- Scott Lang/Ant-Man- Paul Rudd
- Hank Pym- Michael Douglas
- Janet Van Dyne- Michelle Pfeiffer
- Luis- Michael Pena
- Maggie Lang- Judy Greer
- Cassie Lang- Abby Ryder Fortson
- Kurt- David Dastmalchian
- Dave- T.I
- Doctor Bill Foster- Laurence Fishburne
- Agent Jimmy Woo- Randall Park
- Ghost- Hannah John-Kamen
- Sonny Burch- Walton Goggins
This is a really amazing cast, we have the cast from the first film, with a load of new characters. One of most interesting characters is Randall Park's character, Agent Jimmy Woo, a SHIELD agent. Does this mean that SHIELD is returning to the films? It very well could be. As I said earlier, SHIELD or at least a division of SHIELD is going around trying to get the Pym particles.
Anyway, I would like to hear your thoughts on the synopsis, casting, and production announcement video down in the comments below. The film is coming around quite fast. What I wish is that Ant-Man and the Wasp was pushed back to November sometime, just to create space between Infinity War and this film. But I ain't complaining, Ant-Man and the Wasp in theaters July 6, 2018. As always thanks for reading, take care.
