AVENGERS ENDGAME TO GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
Avengers Endgame had a lot of universe shattering events, so let’s take a look at what from Endgame may unfold in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, as we take a look at the new Guardians team, their mission, and the possible main villain of the film. So spoilers ahead for Avengers Endgame.
The Team
Avengers Endgame ends with the Guardians of the Galaxy team in a slightly different place, with different members. So the Guardians of the Galaxy team will have:
- Peter Quill/ Star-Lord
- Drax
- Mantis
- Nebula
- Rocket Racoon
- Groot
- Thor
Thor is the new member of the team and will be an exciting addition. In Endgame we saw Thor get out of shape, and I am sure that he will be back to his eight pack by the time Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 comes along. But I guess it would be funny to see an out of shape Thor once again.
At the end of Avengers Endgame, Thor doesn’t really have any responsibilities, he gave the leadership of new Asgard to Valkyrie, but that doesn't mean he sort of sees himself as the leader of the Guardians team like we saw at the beginning of Avengers Infinity War, and at the end of Endgame.
Another character change in the film will be Groot. Throughout the films, Groot has been a different age, and for vol. 3 this is not going to be an exception. When the phase three schedule was released in 2014 I always thought that Groot’s aging would go along something like this:
- Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2- baby Groot
- Avengers Infinity War part 1- adolescent Groot
- Avengers Infinity War part 2- adult Groot
However, since Groot died in Infinity War and was not around for Endgame [formly titled "Avengers Infinity War part 2"], he still stayed a teen. So it seems like we will see adult Groot like in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 1 back in vol. 3.
In Endgame we saw that Nebula stuck around with Rocket in the five year age gap, so it isn’t that surprising that Nebula is an official member of the team now. There really isn't anywhere for her to go. Her main enemy, Thanos is now dead, so I guess she is going to try live in a world where she has no worries and doesn't have to detach herself from people.
I also did state that I would like to see War Machine join the Guardians of the Galaxy in the film depending on what his future holds.

The Mission
In Avengers Endgame, the Guardians really only had one hanging plot thread left, and that is “where is Gamora?”
Right now in 2023, in the original timeline, there is the alternative 2014 Gamora, who has turned good, somewhere in the universe. It is presumed that with the snap, Tony got rid of all the ‘evil’ Thanos minions, and not the ones who had a change of heart, such as Gamora (who Tony also knew was a hero thanks to Quill).
Technically there are two Gamora’s in our original timeline. One is a lifeless corpse at the bottom of Vormir, and the other is from an alternate 2014 timeline, where she time traveled to the original timeline to 2023. This Gamora is still a good person, but she has never met the Guardians of the Galaxy and has not been through the events of the first two Guardians films.
Quill seems like he will have to persuade Gamora into joining the team, similar to what he did in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 1. It will be very weird to see this younger Gamora interface with the Guardians who know who she is, however, she doesn’t know them.
I suppose that the Guardians on Earth, we might see Quill reunite with his grandfather who hasn’t seen him in 35 years, which will be an emotional scene and a great way to open the film. I really want to see Quill walk around Earth for a scene in the film, see what has changed in the 35 years he has been absent from his homeworld.
The Villain
At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, one of the post-credit scenes was the golden queen lady, Ayesha, creating a new person who she is calling “Adam.”
This is an obvious hint towards the comic character Adam Warlock coming to the film. In the comics, Warlock was a pivotal character of the Infinity Gauntlet comic, being the person to gather the heroes to fight Thanos.
It seems like in the film, Adam Warlock will be sent out by Ayesha to fight to the Guardians after they pissed her off. I am assuming that in the film, Warlock will hunt down the Guardians, and see their flaws, which will be a nice contrast to his perfection.
Adam Warlock in the comics is traditionally a hero, and will most likely side with the Guardians in the film to fight a larger threat in the cosmos. It is possible that we see Adam's doppelgangers from the comics wind up being the main villain of the film. We could see either the pure good doppelganger Goddess or the evil doppelganger, Magus.
In conclusion, Avengers Endgame set up a few pivotal things for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, which is interesting considering that the Guardians franchise was trying to stay a little isolated. I am excited for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 out of all the phase four films, and am curious as to what will James Gunn has in store for us in 2022?
