CAPTAIN MARVEL TRAILER 3 BREAKDOWN

Hey everyone, we have new footage for Captain Marvel which is coming out in two months. The trailer fixes some issues which the previous trailers raised, that being in terms of the darker tone, and the lack of character from Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. This trailer fixes that by giving us more of Carol and some spectacular new footage with finished special effects. So let's just get into the trailer.

So the first scene in this trailer we see Carol meet up with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in a bar in what appears to be an isolated area. The two trade some quips, so at this point in the film, it seems like the two have established a friendship, placing this a little after Fury picks Carol up from the Blockbuster. I am guessing that Carol may have driven to see her pilot pal Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) who she may have remembered from one of her "flashes".

I am assuming that when Carol visits Maria in 1995, when the film takes place out of the flashbacks, Maria will have her daughter, Monica Rambeau, who in the comics becomes the leader of the Avengers, as she takes up the alias of Captain Marvel, later getting her own name of Spectrum- that is her current name in the comics, she has had a few other code names in the comics before.

Carol explains the Skrull invasion on Earth to Fury, as we see this interesting shot of a Skrull in the middle of its shapeshifting. This Skrull here is shifting into the surfer girl that we saw the zoomed up shot of just previously in the trailer.

Is it me, or does the shapeshifting process look a little painful for the Skrulls, the skin looks like it is peeling, and the Skrulls look like they are in a form of agony.

But overall, the special effects look great in showing this process, and it is a striking image which I guess will help audiences remember who has been replaced by a Skrull, which will be helpful in this film and any Avengers sequel which is a Secret Invasion film.

Carol further explains to Fury that Skrulls can not replicate super powers, as she explains with her proton blast. The proton blast looks great with the special effects done, with her hand changing colors as she fires away.

But again, the concept of not copying super powers is important for any Secret Invasion story that may be done, my guess is Avengers 5. That means in a Secret Invasion story, Skrulls can not take over characters who have powers and easily get away with it such as Spiderman, or Doctor Strange. If you want to speculate on who may be a Skrull already, it would be someone who does not have any super powers. So Sharon Carter or General Ross may be good picks.

Because of the Disney-Fox deal, Marvel Studios can use the Super Skrull in the films, who can replicate powers- however, he can not shapeshift himself like a regular Skrull.

This is most likely the climax of the first act of the film which is the Star Force mission- the team of "Noble Warrior Heroes" which brain wiped Carol is on at the beginning of the film. It is most likely a Skrull leader like Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) who they are rounding up here. Because remember, this is in the middle of the Kree-Skrull war so the Kree will be going after all the Skrulls they can.

In this shot we do have some of the Star Force members, so from left to right we have Korath (Djimon Hounsou) from the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, then we have Jude Law's character, Minerva (Gemma Chan) and Bron Char (Rune Temte).

This shot is actually very dark, with only the weapons being lighted up which is a neat visual.

Carol and whoever Jude Law is playing is in training, as Law tells Carol to let "let go of your past" which Carol replies "I don't remember my past". This tells a few things. First of all, Carol must be suspicious that she doesn't remember her past, which I assume will lead her on this journey. Second of all, it seems like Law is playing her mentor, which by this scene does not lead to his identity.

This is the thing with Jude Law's character in Captain Marvel. He has been reported as playing the comic book hero "Captain Mar-Vel" and he has also been reported as playing Kree comic boom villain "Yon-Rogg". Both are significant comic book characters in Captain Marvel (and Mar-Vel) comics, and both deserve some time on screen.

I do have a theory for who Jude Law is playing, but I don't want to reveal it, just in case, it is true. I might do a separate post on, I will wait to see how things go in terms of promotion with the character.

Carol says "I have this power, but I don't know where it came from". In the comics Carol gets her powers from being involved in an explosion with the Psyche-Magnetron and Captain Mar-Vel. However the film will probably change that, like the comics recently did, with Carol getting her powers from her mother who is a pink skin Kree. This means that Carol is 50% Kree. Carol's Kree DNA is evident in the film with the blue blood coming from her nose.

The explosion which Carol is in is what most likely activates her powers, like how Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver had their powers activated through the Mind Stone. I am not saying that there is an Infinity Stone activating Carol's powers, but the Psyche-Magnetron could be bought from the pages onto the big screen.

"Do you think you can find others?" We finally hear Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) back on the big screen with the ground work with the Avengers Initiative being built. I do like how Nick Fury replies "She's just the beginning". I do like how these two are the characters experiencing and seeing Captain Marvel for the first time, as there were several clues in the first Iron Man back ten years ago that there was a wider universe which Coulson and Fury have seen with the lines such as "This isn't my first rodeo" from Phil Coulson and Fury saying "You think you're the only super hero in the world?"

It is awesome seeing the films come full circle in laying in the groundwork of the MCU through the characters of Coulson and Fury- who by the time Carol gets to Earth in Endgame, will both sadly be dead.

In this specific shot here, Fury is talking to his SHIELD supervisor, who is being played by Ben Mendelsohn, who at this point in the film may or may not be have been taken over by his Skrull character Talos. I am actually kind of confused with which characters Ben Mendelsohn is completely playing in the film and the relationship between the Supervisor and Talos. Are the same from the start? half way through? I don't know.

More quips! Carol makes a joke of having the SHIELD logo a baseball cap, and Fury makes fun of super suits. One thing to note here is that Fury has never been big on super suits, he has never designed any that we no of yet. In Spider-man Far From Home, Fury will most likely be the one giving Spiderman the stealth suit, which looks like what if Spiderman became a robber- it's for a stealth mission btw.

Anyway, I am interested to see how the friendship between Carol and Fury develops through the film and how it ends, weather that be in a sense of betrayal, or her cat, Goose, taking out his eye, or something else.


Overall, this Captain Marvel trailer looks awesome, with the tone looking lighter in tone, presenting Carol Danvers as more of a character, and with some great special effects with the Skrulls. Anyway, I am getting excited about this film, and tickets are on sale right now, so if you want to boom in advance, do so. I am not too sure what other footage we will be getting from the film, but if there is anything new, I will discuss is here, so subscribe for that.
