THE FLASH "O COME, ALL YE THANKFUL" REVIEW
Season 5 Episode 7:
Hey everyone, we are here with the 99th episode of the Flash, and its also a Thanksgiving episode, which is directed by Sarah Boyd. In this episode, we see a returning villain, as well as a new one rise, and the team going to stop them. Spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.
Its Thanksgiving time and there are mysterious weather patterns happening in Central City, Nora and Barry go to investigate what's going on which results in Barry nearly dying. Meanwhile, Joss Mardon goes to visit her father, Weather Wizard, at Iron Heights, trying to break him out. Barry takes Weather Wizard and takes him to STAR Labs, while his daughter, Weather Witch flies away. Barry has a talk to Weather Wizard and learns of his family. The team examines the Weather in the city and they find Weather Witch. Barry and Nora confront Weather Witch and she just wants her father. Barry brings Weather Wizard to her, but Weather Witch uses her staff to shock the speedsters and crush her father with a car. Turns out Iris was using a hologram of Weather Wizard, and Weather Witch flies away.
The team finds out that Weather Witch is at an airport, so Barry and Iris go after her with the Weather wand. Barry runs around a lightning tornado and shocks Weather Witch with his own lightning taking her down. The team places Weather Witch's staff away, as it's a piece of meta-technology, and they all go and have a Thanksgiving dinner. While that was all happening we followed Orlin Dwyer, who visits his niece who is in a coma due to the satellite crash. Orlin has flashbacks of his life turning around because he has to take care of his orphaned niece, as we catch up to speed of him being hit with a lightning bolt dagger, and going off to take his first victim. The episode ends with the team finding out that Orlin is Cicada.
Overall, this episode was great, it presented a great story between Barry and Nora, and the idea of sacrifice, and how Barry always has to be the hero no matter what. I also did enjoy the development of the relationship between Orlin and his niece. Although the ending to his flashback was a little campy, I did enjoy how we saw the character develop, and it is awesome seeing the character fall from where he was in a path of wanting revenge and wanting to keep his family safe. It will be interesting to see the inner conflict that the character has.
The cast of the episode was great, I enjoyed Chris Kelin as Orlin, as he did a great job in developing the character a little more and showing that he is a real blue collar worker who just wanted to do good, but it was ripped right from him. Also starring in the episode we had Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/ the Flash), Jessica Parker Kennedy (Nora West-Allen/ XS), Candice Patton (Iris West), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramone/ Vibe), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow/ Killer Frost), Tom Cavanagh (Sherloque Wells), Reina Hardesty (Joss Mardon/ Weather Witch), Liam McIntyre (Mark Mardon/ Weather Wizard), Islie Hirvonen (Grace Gibbons), Chris Kelin (Orlin Dwyer/ Cicada).
In conclusion, this episode of the Flash was great in terms of introducing Weather Witch, albeit a little campy, it also developed the relationship between Barry and Nora, and also Orlin and his niece, creating more inner personal conflicts with developed characters. I will give this episode an 8 out of 10.
