DEFENDERS IN INFINITY WAR EXPLAINED

I know that the Defenders or any Marvel television characters will not appear in Avengers Infinity War this April, but with Jessica Jones season two out, I want to talk about logistically why the characters from the Marvel Netflix shows will not appear in Infinity War, and we can discuss the in-universe mechanics of this. Spoilers for Defenders and Jessica Jones season 2 by the way.

To start off the film's and television shows in the MCU are made by different companies; all are a part of the MCU and owned by Disney. The films are produced by Marvel Studios which is a separate entity to Marvel television, who make all the Marvel tv shows, including Legion and the Gifted.
Marvel Studios makes the films. Head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige has no clue as to what the tv shows are up to, that being because he's a busy man. It has been stated before that Marvel Studios does not have any reason to bring the tv show characters directly into the films for a number of reasons such as contracts and costs, and most importantly Marvel Studios does not want to hold the tv folks to a leash. So say if Daredevil were to be in Avengers Infinity War or Avengers 4, Daredevil season three would lose its freedom in where it wants to go as the movies need the character of Daredevil to be in a certain position.

That is one of the main reasons, another reason is that the characters would need to be developed in the films. With exciting characters such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, audience members would expect to be properly introduced to these characters and not see them fully formed in their hero appearances. Most people like myself do would accept the fact that Daredevil and the other Defenders would just appear in the film ready help, however, we know the backstory of these characters, and people who have not seen their respective shows would get lost in the characters, and how and why they act the way that they do.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these characters would have reasons to go through why they are absent in the events of Infinity War. To start off, Jessica Jones. Season two of Jessica Jones ended in a place where Jessica wants to get back to a regular life. In the end, she is out as a Private Investigator, all the while taking down crime when she comes across it. In the universe, if Tony Stark came to recruit Jessica to be an Avenger, Jessica would tell Tony to screw off, as she is not the hero type, she wants a normal life. Jessica does not see her powers as a gift however as a curse. Getting his second season this summer, Luke Cage. To start off, I believe Luke Cage season two will take place before Infinity War, like most of the tv shows and other films in the MCU that will come out between Infinity War and Avengers 4 the following year. So wherever Luke Cage ends up at the end of season two would in Universe determine why the character would not be in Infinity War. However, from what we know, Luke Cage would most likely have a similar response to any recruitment to the Avengers. We know that there is an invasion in New York in Infinity War, and if anything drops down in Harlem, you know that Luke Cage will stomp it down. However, that fight seems more or less self-contained to the Sanctum Santorum for the Time Stone.

Next Iron Fist. The character was defending Hells Kitchen last we saw of him. In Infinity War, I do feel like he would more or less be willing to be an Avenger. In the invasion of New York, I am guessing that Danny will be working at the Rand Enterprise. However being close to the action, Danny would help people who are in peril, in the background of that scene. Daredevil season three. I do not know where this will end up on the timeline, but at the moment, Matt is believed to be dead, so I am guessing that no one will be out to recruit him, nor could he help fight off the Black Order when they come to New York at the beginning of the film.

The Punisher, at the end of his solo series, Frank decided to confront his past, and he learned that he doesn't know what to do without war. With the invasion of New York, Frank would most likely be out on the streets for the short battle, that is if he is nearby. I would assume the Punisher would like to fight in the Infinity War, punish Thanos for his twisted quest, however, Frank has no means to get to Wakanda for the big battle. If you wanted to you could apply the Comic Book Civil War explanation to his absence like Frank asked to join the Avengers, but they turned him away because he was way too hardcore for them.

From the Avengers standpoint, Tony Stark who will be assembling the Avengers in Infinity War will only want to keep this self-contained to previous Avengers members. He is only recruiting people that would be willing to help fight, and that he has most likely met before. Tony would feel it too much to ask someone to potentially die from a threat that has unlimited power. In Infinity War, it seems like Spiderman gets involved himself, and gets tangled in with Stark. Otherwise, it seems like Tony wouldn't call up Spiderman because he probably doesn't want the kid to potentially die.

If we do get the Netflix characters in the movies it would be at cameo level, maximum. From the Sanctum Santorum, Infinity War Lego set, there was a Daredevil missing Easter egg on a newspaper, that being a reference to the believed death of Matt at the end of Defenders. Whether that is in Infinity War remains to be seen. Other cameos would just be seeing the Defenders in the background, nothing special that would affect the story. The shows can reference as much film stuff as they want, probably will not be allowed to have the film characters show up in full, but cameo and reference style like we would expect.

In conclusion, the Defenders or any Marvel Netflix characters will not appear in Avengers Infinity War or Avengers 4, however, the future does await in phase four and things might change, we might see extended roles from the characters, however in the meantime, there are plenty of logistical and fictional excuses for the absence of these beloved heroes, or at least people with abilities who sometimes give a shit. I would like to know your thoughts and or opinions of the Defenders in the MCU down below, also what would you like to see if the Defenders were in Infinity War. You can click on the left for more Defenders or on the right for Infinity War, and if you haven't already, subscribe. As always thanks for reading, take care.
