THE FLASH "GIRL'S NIGHT" REVIEW
Season 4 Episode 5:
Hey, everyone, we are back with a brand new recap and review of the Flash, with us visiting Barry's bachelor party and Iris' bachelorette party. So spoilers ahead of the episode lets recap.
The episode opens up with Ralph at STAR Labs testing out his powers. In walks in Felicity where she questions what is going on with Ralph, she goes upstairs where she meets up with Iris, ready for her bachelorette party. Caitlin tells Iris that she is not going to come to her party, but Iris convinces her to have some fun for a night.
Later that night, Cecile and her daughter leave home, with Ceile going to Iris' bachelorette party, and Joanie going elsewhere. Joe is at home, when Barry, Cisco, and Harry come over to start off Barry's bachelor party of watching old videos of Barry at home. Ralph walks in and he tells the boys where they need to go to really have an unforgettable bachelors party.
We then cut to the bachelorette party. Iris, Felicity, Cecile, and Caitlin are having some drinks. One of Caitlin's old bar workers, Norvok comes in and tells Caitlin she needs to go with him. Refusing his offer, Norvok attacks the ladies with a tentacle coming out of his eye. Iris tries to fight him off, however, Caitlin turns into Killer Frost to stop Norvok.
Meanwhile, at Barry's bachelor party, the five go to a strip club where Ralph is a loyal customer. The guys get their phone confiscated. At the bar, the guys get some drinks and Cisco gives Barry the special drink which has an effect on him. At STAR Labs, Killer Frost gets changed into her new suit, with Iris asking Killer Frost what is going on. Killer Frost says she needs to settle some business. Iris tries to call Barry, but there is no answer. Iris tells Felicity and Cecile that they need to go after her and save her because Caitlin is in there.
Meanwhile, at the strip club, Barry is drunk, Joe, Cisco, and Harry are trying to enjoy themselves, and Ralph is having a great time. A stripper comes on stage and Joe is shocked to see that it is no other than Cecile's daughter, Joanie, which freaks Joe out.
Back with Killer Frost, she goes to a weird underground club where she meets with her old bar boss, Amunet Black, who is with Norvok. Amunet shows Frost something she found, she found a new Meta-Human who produces tears which give someone power when digested. Iris is spying on the situation. Killer Frost tells Amunet that she wants out of her gang, which Amunet doesn't like, as she makes all the decisions. Amunbet starts to move some metal with her mind, and Killer frost ices up her hands. Iris steps into the room and stops a meta-fight from going down. Iris leaves the club with Killer Frost.
At STAR Labs, Killer Frost tells Iris that she is going to get away from Central City, to get away from Amunet. Iris talks to Killer Frost and tells her that she is afraid of Caitlin as much as she Caitlin is afraid of her.
Meanwhile, at the bachelor party, Joe asks Joanie what she is doing. She tells him that she is going to write a book, which Joe says he won't tell Cecile, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't. Ralph is convicted of stealing money, so he starts beating up the manager and the bar gets into a fight with Barry saying he is the Flash.
Killer Frost leaves STAR Labs and is in the middle of a road trying to get away from Central City. She then encounters Amunet who uses her metal kinesis to create a metal gauntlet. Killer Frost fights Amunet, however, is knocked down. Amunet continues to punch Killer Frost until she reverts back to Caitlin. The cops show up to arrest Amunet, however, she kills the cops.
Back at STAR Labs, Caitlin apologizes to iris and the others that she turned into Killer Frost. She says that she can not remember anything that happened. She tells the ladies that the reason why Amunet is after her is that when Caitlin took the cure from Julian, it didn't work fully and that Amunet helped her to get back to full Caitlin. So Caitlin still owns Amunet a lifetime of debt. Iis tells Caitlin that she is her friend and that she will stand with her. Thankful for the gesture, Caitlin tells Iris that they aren't really friends, and more just work friends.
Meanwhile, after the fight at the strip club, Joe, Cisco, Ralph, and sober Barry are in a jail cell. Harry comes to the cell and bails them out. At STAR Labs, Felicity is tracking down Amunet Black, and she does successfully. Iris, Cecile, and Felicity go out to stop Amunet, but Caitlin decides to hold back, on the off chance she turns into Killer Frost.
Iris and Felicity are geared with guns and Cecile is in a van as the overwatch. The three watch Amunet in a metal factory, making a deal with a gang for the Met-human. Iris and Felicity are caught on the field and are held up by guns. Amunet recognizes Iris from the club as a friend of Caitlin. In walks in Caitlin, in the Killer Frost suit, who tells Amunent to leave her friends out of this, as what is going on is between her and Amunet. Cailin turns into Killer Frost and takes out Amunent's henchmen. Iris and Felicity get behind Killer Frost who creates a bubble out of ice.
Trapped in the shield, Felicity tells Cecile that she needs to turn on the magnet in the factory, which Cecile does. Killer Frost breaks out of the ice bubble and before Amunent can throw her metal gauntlet at Killer Frost, it gets attached to the magnet. Iris frees the trapped Metahuman, who runs away like Amunet does.
Back at STAR Labs, Barry, Cisco, and Ralph meet up with Iris, with parties telling each other they had regular nights. The four walk into the central hub of the facility and see Killer Frost, who greets the team and forms back to Caitlin. She tells the team about what happened to her powers and her Killer Frost persona.
Back home, Joe tells Joanie that she needs to tell Cecile about her book writing and what she is doing for that. Cecile comes home with big belly burger. Joanie tells her mother that they will meet for coffee tomorrow. Joe and Cecile then talk about how they are going to be older parents and that they need to take care of their child.
At STAR Labs Iris tells Caitlin that to her she is more than a work friend, but a real friend. Iris then asks Caitlin if she would like to be maid of honor at Iris and Barry's wedding, which Caitlin accepts.
The episode ends with the Meta-Human Amunet was going to sell, running away. We then see the Thinker in a floating chair telling the meta that he is not getting away as he put a lot of time into creating him.
The episode overall was a fun adventure which didn't rely on the Flash to bring some great action. I liked the center focus of the episode having Iris and Caitlin, developing their friendship future, which is something we have not seen a whole lot of before. I liked the adventure we saw Killer Frost go on and we filled in some plot holes the series had between season 3 and season 4.
Let's talk about that ending. We know that the Thinker, "DeVoe" is going to be hard to track, as there are hundreds of people with the last name DeVoe. In the comics the Thinker's full name if Clifford DeVoe, so that is the name, the team is looking for. But at the end, it appears that he purposely created the 12 Meta to have specific Meta's. So all these powers will ultimately work in the Thinkers favor later in the season. So four down 12 to go.
Danielle Panabaker was amazing in the episode as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost. I enjoyed seeing how the character switched from being Caitlin to Frost and what they thought of each other. The plot with her an Amulet Black was really exciting to see, and the way it filled in some plot holes between season 3 and season 4, like how Killer Frost returned to Caitlin was great. As Felicity said in the episode, Killer Frost is like the Hulk. Caitlin Snow is afraid of Killer Frost as much as Killer Frost is afraid of Caitlin, the same dynamic Bruce Banner and the Hulk have. I was super surprised that they could name drop the Hulk like that. Marvel now exist in the DCTV universe.
The rest of the cast in the episode was great, we had Candice Patton (Iris West), Emilly Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), Danielle Nicolet (Cecile Horton), Jesse L. Martin (Joe West),
Riley Jade Berglund (Joanie), Mark Sweatman (Norvok), Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/the Flash), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramone), Hartley Sawyer (Ralph Dibny), Tom Cavanagh (Harry Wells), and Neil Sanders (Clifford DeVoe/the Thinker).
In the episode, we saw the introduction of new rogue leader, Amulet Black played by Katee Sackhoff. If was great that the show could get Sackhoff to star, and she was a fun villain in the episode, especially tied in the Killer Frost plot line. Amunent will most likely return in the season, which I can't wait for.
In conclusion, this episode of the Flash was a great episode which bought character development for Caitlin Snow and Iris. It was great seeing new characters taking the spotlight on the show., and seeing a fun new villain. I will give"girl's night" an 8.5 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, take care.
