NO MORE REY AFTER EPISODE IX?
In an interview, with the Rolling Stones, Daisy Ridley said that she does not want to play Rey after Star Wars Episode IX. She said in a quote when asked "No", “For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to. I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, ‘Awesome.’ Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now.”
So this says that Daisy Ridley does not want to do any Star Wars projects after episode 9. And that is completely fair enough because I assume that being the main hero of the biggest franchise on the planet would be tiring between the actual job of acting and all the press tours.
But with Daisy most likely exiting after this trilogy, we could see the character go out in a number of ways. Inj episode IX we could see the character die at the end of the film. If Rey turned out to be the daughter of Luke, it would create an emotional ending to the trilogy and for Luke's story. In Return of the Jedi, Luke buried his father, in Episode IX, he buries his daughter. However, an ending like that or any ending with Rey dying would feel a little dark, especially with closing off this trilogy. Imagine Return of the Jedi ending with Luke dying, that would be a tragic and less fulfilling ending.
Letting Rey live at the end of the film would be the most likely situation, but you may be wondering about plot holes going into future installments of the saga. Well, we know that Rian Johnson is developing a separate Star Wars trilogy focusing on other characters, and at the moment there is no official confirmation of Episode X, or beyond. If we do get a fourth trilogy of the Saga films, we could see that happening further down the line in 15 years or so where Daisy Riddley may be wanting to come back to the films and reprise her role as Rey.
Anyway, that is where I will leave that. Daisy Ridley seems to want to take a break from being in Star Wars after Episode IX, which is a respectable move. She may never come back to the films or she may change her mind in the future and come back. But in the meantime, we can also see Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars the last Jedi in theaters December 14th. Share your thoughts on Rey leaving of Episode IX down in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, take care.
