LEGENDS OF TOMORROW 'FREAKSHOW' REVIEW
Season 3 Episode 2:
The new episode of Legends of Tomorrow came out yesterday and there was a lot of surf to unpack from the episode. So spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.
The episode opens with a flashback to six months ago. Nate is living with Amaya, who sees her granddaughter being a vigilante on the news, and how she is saving people. Amaya the leaves without telling Nate. Back in present-day Ray finishes building his latest invention, a shrink ray. The Legends take a look at the anachronisms that still exist, and they decide to take on a level one mission, in a circus in Wisconsin, 1870. Looking around the circuit, Mick immediately leaves from his fear of clowns. Ray, Jax, and Nate find the anachronism, a Saber Tooth Tiger. Ray attempts to shrink the animal, however, he makes it bigger which it then escapes.
Back on the Waverider. Sara decides that if they are going to track down an animal, they need an expert. Sara takes the escape pod and travels to Zambesi, 1942. There Sara speaks with Amaya to ask for help. Amaya asks if Nate knows she Sara asked Her, which Sara replies yes, so Amaya agrees and comes on board the waverider. On the Waverider everyone is excited to see Amaya except for Nate who feels like she walked out on him, which she did. Sara and Amaya go out to search for the Sabertooth. Finding the Sabertooth, Sara uses the shrink ray to make a small Sabertooth tiger which they take on board the Waverider.
Meanwhile, Nate, Jax, and Ray go out for drinks in a 1870s bar. When a circus freak is being picked on. Nate stands up for her and uses his powers for self-defense. The circus contender, P.T Barnum sees the act Nate put on with his Steel skin, and he offers Nate, Ray, and Jax a private show. Ray and Jax go along, however, are captured and Nate ends up unconscious on the Waverider. Sara asks Nate where Ray and Jax are, but Nate has no idea, only that the gloated about there superpowers when they were sort of drunk at the bar.
Nate and Amaya go to the circus to find Ray and Jax who are putting on a siamese twins act. Nate and Amaya get captured by Barnum. In the same cage Amaya apologizes to Nate for what she did, on walking out on him, but after seeing her granddaughter, she knew she had to go back to Zambesi to complete her destiny and not let her daughter erase from existence. At the circus, Sara sees a suspicious man, who she knocks out and it is Agent Garry from the Time Beaura. He was sent to spy on the Legends.
On the Waverider, Sara has Garry contained. But Mick accidentally lets the Sabertooth tiger out. Agent Ava from the Time Bureau shows up and Sara tells Mick and Martin to find the others while she holds off Eve.
The episode ends with a hooded woman creating a spell which brings Kussa from the water. The hooded woman says that she is a follower of Mallus. So really quickly this person coming out of the water is Kussa, Amaya's granddaughter who wears the Water Totem. She appeared in the Vixen animated series, so if you want to see more of her, check out that series.
This episode of Legends was a really neat one. I like the story that was presented with the circus, and how the Legends were used as a circus act. Having the Sabertooth tiger in the episode was awesome to see; large and small.
Masie Sellers Richardson was great as Amay/Vixen in the episode. I love that the character is back, and in such an exciting way. The story she had with Nate in the episode was interesting, which made for great character development. It appears that her story this season will revolve around the way the totem is corrupting her mind, that might have something to do with her granddaughter we saw at the end of the episode. I liked seeing Billy Zane as the circus conductor, there was a neat vibe he bought. The rest of the cast in the episode was great we had, Nick Zano (Nate/ Citizen Steel), Caity Lotz (Sara/ White Canary), Brandon Routh (ray/the Atom), Franz Durham (Jax/ Firestorm), and Victor Garber (Martin/ Firestorm).
Overall, this episode of Legends of Tomorrow was an exciting one with a neat story and great character development. I am excited to see what is going to happen in the season going forward. I will give the episode an 8 out of 10. As always thanks for reading, take care.

Behind the scenes of the circus, Nate is being prepared for his circus act as "the man of steel." Amaya can't stand to see Nate being shot at and breaks out and starts to chase Barnum.
Meanwhile, on board the Waverider, Sara and Ava have a fight that where they are equal in power. The two get tired and decide to have a break and then get back to fighting. At the circus, Martin is dressed as a clown and starts getting attacked by other clowns until Mick comes over his fears to save Martin; who gets thrown over the Jax to become Firestorm, who tries to stop Amaya from killing Barum, however, is knocked outside. Nate then talks with Amaya and talks her out from killing Barnum.
Back on the Waverider the Sabertooth tiger grows large and Starts to chase Eve. Sara manages to save Eve. In a room, Ava says "I can't believe Rip thinks you can stop..." Sara asks what did she mean, and Ava said don't worry about it. With the Sabertooth being returned to its prehistoric time, Ava and Garry leave knowing that the Legends stopped an anachronism. The Legends go back on the Waverider, leaving 1870. On board, Amaya tells the team that recently her totem has been corrupting her mind and making her like an animal, so she is staying with the Legends so they can help her and stop her from going overboard and killing someone.
The episode ends with a hooded woman creating a spell which brings Kussa from the water. The hooded woman says that she is a follower of Mallus.
