RICK AND MORTY 'THE RICKLANTIS MIXUP' REVIEW
Season 3 Episode 7:
The new episode of Rick and Morty is a very different style of the episode than we have seen before, and what the synopsis and the trailer showed. So with major spoilers ahead, let's recap the episode
The episode opens up with C-137 Rick and Morty going on an adventure to Atlantis, however, they are approached by another Rick and Morty to give donations to rebuild the citadel, which C-137 Rick ignores and goes on his way.
So we travel to the Citadel. And since there were multiple story threads I will go through each one individually.
Starting off, on the Citadel there is an election going on at the moment where there is one Morty competing. In the campaign, this Morty makes a good point that he sees a divide between the Rick's and Morty's that want the citadel divided and the ones who don't. In his campaign, his campaign manager does not have any faith in candidate Morty, which is why he gets fired. We will get back to this in a bit.

In his campaign, his campaign manager does not have any faith in candidate Morty, which is why he gets fired. We will get back to this in a bit.
In the citadel, some orphan Morty's who go to a school with their own Severus Snape, go on an adventure to the 'wishing well' where they are going to wish a better life. On their adventure the Morty's bond, and when they get to the wishing well, they all give up a personal item for their wish, however one of the Morty's sacrifices himself, and drops into the well, which we discover is a dump.
Meanwhile, a police officer Morty and a police officer Rick go an adventure in the dangerous part of the citadel, "Morty town", a place where Morty's are forgotten an lead a life of crime. Here officer Morty and officer Rick discover a meth lab type house, where a Rick is trying to create a portal gun, which fails. Officer Rick gets injured while trying to trust a Morty, so officer Morty sends him to the car to get healed. Officer Morty walks out of the building exploding it.
Later on, officer Morty and officer Rick go to a club to talk to a pimp Morty, who is paying the officers on cleaning up the crime in Morty town. Officer Rick declines, and officer Morty says that it is a good choice, then the club turns into a large shootout. Officer Morty gets pimp Morty to the ground and is about to kill him. Officer Rick tries to talk Morty out of the murder, but officer Morty kills pimp Morty, and officer Rick kills officer Morty.
Also going on is there is a factory which makes cookies. A factory worker gets looks aside for a job promotion and decides to murder his boss for it. The Rick is spotted and goes inside a sacred room where the source of the cookie's come from, a Rick who is experiencing a good memory with Beth. Holding this coma Rick hostage, factory worker Rick asks the police outside for a portal gun. It is given to him, and he opens a portal and pushes in coma Rick, which he falls to the blender dimension. Factory worker Rick is then captured by police. The owner of the factory sets the worker Rick free but shoots him using the memory of freedom as the source of the new line of cookies "Simple Rick's".
Meanwhile, the campaign manager Morty goes to a bar, drinking away his pain of getting fired. A Rick in a trench coat walks in and hands the Morty a file on secrets.
Back with canidate Morty, he is in a crowd, and campaign manager Morty shoots canidate Morty. Campaing manager Morty is then arrested. Officer Rick is let free from his arrest of shooting officer Morty. In a cell, campaign manager Morty is questioned why he shot now the new president Morty. But campaign manager Morty is ingored and shot out into the vacum of space.
President Morty holds a meeting with the new council of Rick's who aren't taking President Morty seriously. President Morty executes them all and starts his time of action on the citadel.
The Rick's that were executed and the campaign manager's body float out in space. We fly over the folder campaign manager Morty was given about President Morty, and we see pictures of Evil Morty.
The episode ends on the regular Earth, with Rick and Morty coming back from Atlantis, where when asked, Rick says "we won't be hearing any more about the citadel."
The best scene of the episode was the end reveal that Evil Morty is now the President of the Citidale. This is a huge reveal, that Evil Morty is back. But what his motives now. We know from season 1 he hates the 'Rickest' of Rick's, such as C-137. So there is a motivation to kill him, and he will have an infinite amount of resources to go after C-137 Rick.
I am still going with the theory that Evil Morty was the original Morty of Rick, on C-137. Then Rick did something to Evil Morty, to make him Evil. Then Rick went to C-138, around 20 years after that Rick either died or left. And where he went on adventures with our Morty in a couple episodes of season 1. Now Rick (C-137) and Morty (C-138) are living on C-139.
When campaign manager Morty is given the files by the trenchcoat Rick on Evil Morty. That trenchcoat Rick could be out C-137 Rick, who slipped away in Atlantis to get Evil Morty killed. This would make sense as at the end of the episode Rick said "we won't be hearing any more about the citadel." anticipating that Evil Morty was killed, and he won't go looking for him.
Justin Roiland did such an amazing job as playing every character in the episode. All the Rick's and all the Morty's we followed through the episode. I still can not get over how he can switch from Rick to Morty in an instant.
Anyway, this episode was very interesting, and something different to see in the series. It was fun jumping around all the different plots in the episode, and the reveal was huge. I will give the episode an 8 out of 10. I would really like to hear your thoughts on the episode down in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, take care.
