GAME OF THRONES "A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS" REVIEW

Season 8 Episode 2:

Hey everyone, we are back with a brand new episode of Game of Thrones season eight, directed by David Nutter In this episode we see a lot of character moments, in addition, to set, up to next week's episode, the battle of Winterfell. So spoilers ahead for the episode, let’s go.

Jamie is being questioned by Daenerys, Sansa, and Jon about what he is doing in Winterfell, as he tells them that he has been deceived by Cersei, and wants to fight the white walkers. Brienne stands up for Jamie and says that he is a loyal man. Later on, Daenerys and Sansa have a talk, where they discuss what happens when the walkers are defeated. Daenerys tells Sansa that she will claim the Iron Throne, however, she is undeceiving on what to do with the North. Theon arrives at Winterfell and reunites with the Starks.

Edd, Tormund, and Beric arrive at Winterfell and reunite with Jon and Sam, who thought they died when the wall collapsed. Everyone gathers around and discuss on how to defeat the walkers. Jon suggests killing the Night King because all the walkers obey him, and Bran suggests that he be used as bait to draw out the Night King because he has been after him for several years.

Tyrion, Tormund, Davos, Brienne, Podrick, and Jaime have some drinks, as Jamie officially knights Brienne. Meanwhile, Arya gets a weapon made by Gendry and the two get it one before the walkers come. Jon meets Daenerys as his mother’s, Lyanna Stark’s tomb, as he tells Daenerys about his real heritage, and that she is his aunt, with Jon’s father being Rhaegar Targaryen, thus making him first in line for the Iron Throne. The two are cut short as the battle horns are blown at Winterfell as the white walkers approach Winterfell.

This episode was well filmed like every other episode. The episode had great cinematography, and really presented a lot of the scenes and character interactions in a fascinating way. Although a lot of the scenes were indoor and took place in Winterfell, they in a way felt expansive. That was really because of all the characters that were in the episode, and how many of them were into the same shot.
What this episode did well was built on character moments. Not too much happened in the episode in terms of the white walker plot, however, a lot of the character moments bough the episode together.

Jamie and Bran’s meeting in Winterfell since episode one was a brilliant scene and played well over the course of the episode. I did love all of the quotes Bran dropped in the episode in front of Jamie, from what Jamie said to Bran before he pushed him out the window and crippled him. It was great seeing Bran saying “the things I do for love” in front of Jamie, and just taunt him of all the wrong she has done in his life, including pushing a kid down a dozen of feet out of a window. I also like Breene being knighted by Jamie in the episode. It was a great character moment for Breene and was a neat payoff for the character.

I do have to say, one of the weirdest scenes in the episode Arya getting it on with Gendry. Although the age gap between the character is only supposed to be around four years, it was still really weird, and just uncomfortable to watch. Arya is a character that I thought we wouldn’t see have a romantic interest in this season, let alone see her partially naked in an episode.

One of the best scenes in the episode was when Jon revealed to Daenerys who his parents really are. I did love at the beginning of the scene where Daenerys was almost apologetic for what her older brother, Rhaegar did to Lyanna Stark. It did show how Daenerys wants to do the wrongs her family did. Jon struggling to reveal who his parents were was a great subtle touch and added in how he didn’t want to tell Daenerys something that she didn't want to hear, that being him being first in line to take the Iron Throne. However, Jon decided to tell Daenerys the truth, because that is who he is, a man who wants to do what is right. Also, it would be weird for Daenerys to realize that she has been sleeping with her nephew. I guess the worst part of this is, is that the worst thing that  Daenerys. Got out of that conversation was not that she was sleeping with her nephew, however, instead, she realizes that she is not the first person in line to have a claim to the Iron Throne.

The cast of the episode was great. Again, this episode was built upon character moments, so all of the interactions between these characters made the episode into an entertaining. Starring in the episode was Kit Harrington (Jon Snow/ Aegon Targaryen), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Ben Crompton (Eddison Tollett), Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane), and Richard Dormer (Beric Dondarrion).

In conclusion, this episode was a great episode which was built upon great character moments. Although not too much happened, it was still entertaining filled with a lot of great scenes, such as Jamie and Bran interacting, and how Jon revealed that he is Daenerys’ nephew.
Rating: 8.5/10
