THE FLASH "DOLL'D UP" REVIEW

Season 5 Episode 5:

Hey everyone, we are back with a new episode of the Flash, directed by Philip Chipera. In the episode, we get the introduction of the villain of Ragdoll, played by real-life contortionist, Troy James. So we will get into the story of the episode, and the best parts, so spoilers ahead.

With a series of robberies happening throughout Central City, Barry and Iris go out to investigate a new Meta-human who was created from the satellite crash, named Rag-doll, who can bend his limbs at will. Meanwhile, Caitlin, Ralph, Sherloque, and Cisco do some more investigating to find Caitlin's father. Cisco attempts to use his powers, however, when he does, his hands start to bleed, and he eventually faints. Back at STAR Labs, Cisco didn't tell Caitlin what using his powers was doing to him, as he wanted her to find peace with her father, which Caitlin decides to postpone.

Barry gets captured by Ragdoll who gets power dampening handcuffs placed on Barry. The two are on a rooftop, and Ralph and Iris come to save Barry, who gets pushed off the building. Nora comes to save her father, but Iris does before her, while Ralph takes down Ragdoll. The episode ends with Ragdoll being locked up and Nora reconciles with Iris.

This episode was arguably the best of this season. There were a few things which the episode fixed which seemed like they were going to bring the season down. The main thing was the Iris and Nora arch. It started to get a little old with Nora being cold towards Iris, but I am glad that it was fixed albeit in a way where the laws of physics were broken.

I do have to say that my favorite plot in the episode was Caitlin's story. It was a well played out, and interesting plot which developed and took a look at the relationship of Cisco and Caitlin, which was well acted out. It reminded me of season one, and it was a good thing, seeing these characters who have changed a lot in the past couple of years have a scene where their friendship is developed.

The character of Ragdoll was an awesome villain. I enjoyed how the character used very little effects, only of the flattened fingers. That is because the show got contortionist, Troy James, who was awesome as Ragdoll, giving a raw, and authentic look and feel to the character. The show didn't rely on CG effects, however, it relied on the real-life talents of James and it gave a more haunting and villainous look.

The cast of the episode was great. I mentioned previously that Troy James was excellent in the episode, and was definitely the best part of the episode. The rest of the cast in the episode was great, starring in the episode we had Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/ the Flash), Jessica Parker Kennedy (Nora West-Allen/ XS), Candice Patton (Iris West), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow/ Killer Frost), Hartley Sawyer (Ralph Dibny/ Elongated Man), Tom Cavanagh (Sherloque Wells), Jesse L. Martin (Joe West), and Danielle Nicolet (Cecile Horton).

In conclusion, this episode of the Flash was an exciting episode, not so much how it contributed to an overall arch, however from the stand-alone story it told which was exciting with the Ragdoll character, and also the way that the episode fixed the Nora and Iris relationship whilst also developing the relationship between Caitlin and Cisco. I will give this episode an 8 out of 10.
