RIVERDALE "THE WICKED AND THE DIVINE" REVIEW

Chapter 25:

Hey, everyone, we are back with a brand new episode of Riverdale, and we see a whole lot of stuff go down in the episode, like a lot. So spoilers ahead for the episode if you have not seen it, let's recap the episode and then review.

In the episode, we focus on Archie running errands for Hiram Lodge as a part of his new job. Veronica invites Archie, Betty, Jughead, Kevin, and Josie to her confirmation ceremony with her family. Later that day, Archie is approached by Hiram who asks Archie if he can work as a water boy at his Lodge industry poker game, and Archie accepts. Talking to Agent Adams, Archie is going to get intel on Hiram and his associates. At the poker game held in Pops, Hiram and his friends play, however one of his friends, Poppa Poutine, get triggered by the food at Pops and goes outside. While cleaning the bathrooms, Archie listens in on a conversation Poppa Poutine is having and learns that Poutine wants to take out Hiram for getting too soft.

Meanwhile, Jughead discovers that the Southside serpents are getting evicted from their trailer homes by the Mayor. Jughead speculates and gets it correct that Hiram Lodge is pulling Mayor McCoy's strings, and that Mayor McCoy is doing all of this because of the Pickens statue head is missing and the Serpents are being blamed. Back at the Serpent clubhouse, Penny Peabody is back and tells everyone what Jughead did to her. She then tells everyone that if she gets the Pickens statue head back, she wants Jughead out of the Serpents and to cut off his tattoo. Back home, Jughead and FP have an argument about whats right and wrong.

At the church, Veronica is having her confirmation ceremony. After performing a musical number with Josie, Veronica sees some dramatic lighting and gets baptized. At the after party, Veronica tells Archie that he should not get into the Lodge business. Archie then has a private talk with Hiram and tells him that Poppa Poutine is planning to take him out. Jughead and Betty leave the party and go out to find the Pickens statue head. Jughead and Betty discover that Tall Boy stole the statue head. At the Serpent clubhouse, Jughead tells everyone what Tall Boy took that statue head. Tall Boy says that Hiram told him to do it, so FP takes away Tall Boy's jacket and kicks him and Penny off the Serpents.

Jughead and Betty go back to the trailer where they start to get closer and eventually make out. Archie has a meet up with Agent Adama and learns that Poppa Poutine was killed. Adams asks Archie if he knows anyone that would kill Poutine, and Archie says "no".  Veronica gets a gift and it is for Hiram and Hermione, and it is the Pickens statue head. The episode ends with Betty coming back home where she finds her mother, Alice cleaning up a dead body.

Overall, this episode of Riverdale was a most exciting one. There was the anticipation of what Hiram's associates are up to. We got no pay off on that side, however, we did get the pay off as to see how Hiram acts. Hiram was proud of Archie for punching up Nick, and we saw how Hiram ordered to kill Poppa Poutine after learning what was going to be planned. It is possible that Hiram has the Black Hood in his order, and that is who killed Poutine, we can speculate on all that when we get more clues later on. The B plot in the episode was also kind of interesting. I loved the return of Penny Peabody. I just wish that she had a more impactful role rather than a threat that we knew was not going to happen. I hope we see the character return in the series seeking a larger revenge against Jughead.

The performances of the cast in the episode were overall great, we had Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge), KJ Apa (Archie Andrews), Mark Consuelos (Hiram Lodge)Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge), M.C Gainey (Poppa Poutine), Alvin Sanders (Pop Tate), Luke Perry (Fred Andrews), John Behlmann (Agent Arthur Adams), Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones), Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones), Vanessa Morgan (Toni Topaz), Brit Morgan (Penny Peabody), Scott McNeil (Tall Boy), Asleigh Murray (Josie McCoy), Cassey Cott (Kevin Keller), Hart Denton (Chic Cooper), and Mädchen Amick (Alice Cooper).

In conclusion, this episode of Riverdale was an entertaining as it was filled with some anticipation of how Hiram would react to the things said and the mystery behind what Hiram was doing and how Archie was going to go about finding this information. I will give this episode of Riverdale an 8 out of 10. I would like to hear your thoughts on the episode, and how do you think killed the guy, Alice or Chic? comment below.
