RIVERDALE "HOUSE OF THE DEVIL" REVIEW
Chapter 21:
Hey, everyone, we are back with a brand new Riverdale review, and I will only do a small recap of the episode due to me not remembering it too well as this review is going up later. So spoilers for the episode here is a small recap.
The episode focuses on the release of FP Jones from prison. With his release, Betty and Jughead organize a party while lovers Archie and Veronica search for more clues of the Black Hood starting with the house where there was a slaughter at years ago. Betty wants to become a serpent to be with Jughead so she learns from Toni that she has to do a strip dance to become a serpent, so Betty wants to do one at FP's welcome back party which is also a Serpent retirement party.
Archie and Veronica investigate the ruined house where we see some flashbacks of the horrific shooting. Archie and Veronica find a family photo of the family that was killed in the house and they find that there are five people, meaning one kid survived the shooting. Archie and Veronica go to school where they look at the yearbooks to see who the child may be as they believe that this child is the Black Hood. Archie finds out that the child in the photo is the school janitor. Archie and Veronica confront the janitor who they discover is not the black hood, from his eyes and story.
At FP's party, Betty comes with serpent dressed Alice where they meet Jughead and everyone else in the bar that the party is. Archie and Veronica perform a song at the party but Veronica walks off stage and Archie chases after her. Betty gets up on stage to perform the rest of their song and she strips off and does her strip dance on the pole. Bett finishes and FP hands her a Serpent jacket as she is welcomed a serpent. FP talks to Jughead and tells him that Betty screwed up and he has to solve this problem of Betty being a Serpent. Archie and Veronica break off their relationship and Jughead and Betty does the same ending the episode.
Overall this episode was an interesting one. The storyline of the episode regarding the Janitor was by far the best part of the episode because of the building of the clues that the story gave. I was excited to try piece together the clues the episode gave. There were a couple things that did not work too well in the episode such as the Archie and Veronica relationship. It felt almost like an unnecessary storyline that could have been easily avoided if there was better writing. It almost felt like the relationship was broken apart to give the characters a storyline which could have been done in different ways.
The weirdest part of the episode by far was the Betty strip dance, just why? I know the actress, Lili Reinhart, is over 18, but isn't the character suposed to be like 16, or 17. Just seems wrong. It is also weird to know that out of almost every show I watch, this show has the youngest cast however is the most inapropiate, not in terms of the violence or language, but just why? Betty is under 18.
The cast of the episode was a cast, so starring in the episode was KJ Apa (Archie Andrews), Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones), Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge), Cameron McDonald (Janitor, Mr. Svenson), Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom), Ashleigh Murray (Josie McCoy), Mädchen Amick (Alice Cooper), Vanessa Morgan (Toni Topaz), Alvin Sanders (Pops Tate), and Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones).
In conclusion this episode of Riverdale could have been an excellent episode with the clues of the Black Hood and the style that the episode had in filming, however waas dragged down by the weak writing of the relaationships and poor attmept to create storylines for the characters.
