THE DEFENDERS REVIEW ... SO SPOILERS

DEFENDERS ASSEMBLE:

The Marvel Netflix tv shows, The Defenders is out and having of binged it within two days, let's review the show.

The Defenders revolves around vigilantes, Matt Murdock/ Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand, the Immortal Iron Fist (Finn Jones) have to face the dangerous organisation the hand, who threaten both the heroes vigilantes lives and their personal lives. The Defenders team up to put an end to the hand when they surface in New York, with the leader, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver) having resurrected Elektra (Elodie Yung) to take out The Defenders.

First things first, one of the great things about the Netflix shows is the title sequences, Defenders does not disappoint, I loved the use of color and the silhouettes of the characters over the map of New York, it looked amazing, and the music really made me get into the mode to watch the show.

Going through initial thoughts, I really enjoyed the series overall, the way the characters were used in the series worked out very well. The initial pairings with Daredevil and Jessica and then Luke and Iron Fist meeting each other worked out perfectly and it was interesting seeing their personas clash on screen, especially Jessica and Matt.

One thing I especially loved about the series was the use of color and lighting. It was really neat, having red lighting in the Daredevil scenes, yellow in Luke Cage scenes, and so on.

The season was relatively short, but it was an appropriate length, 8 episodes it what I would like from all the shows, my brain was hurting when  I watched 13 consecutive hours of all the other shows, Defenders I could handle, hopefully, the seasons of the other shows could get shortened. However, in the eight episodes, I was surprised as to how late things came together. All the Defenders only meet each other in the third or fourth episode, it was awesome when they came together, but I was expecting that the characters would meet earlier in the season.

There isn't really an episode which I could point out as the best, episode 8, was amazing, but there were other scenes which I really enjoyed, such as the first hallway fight in episode 3 where all the Defenders meet up, the Jessica and Matt scenes, and the scene where Stick goes all crazy, trying to kill Iron Fist. But episode really bought it. The emotional baggage with Daredevil, it was heavy. But we will talk about all the ending stuff in a second.

The show had a really talented cast. We, of course, has Charlie Cox as Daredevil, who was amazing, Krysten Ritter was of course "classy" as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter was awesome as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones, such an improvement from his show earlier this year. The supporting cast, not so much supporting as they were stars themselves, we, of course, have Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Scott Glenn (Stick), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Rachel Taylor (Trish Walker), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), Wai Ching Ho (Madame Gao), Sigourney Weaver (Alexandra), and Elodie Yung as Elektra.

The ending, we really focus on the characters going their sperate ways, what they will be doing in their own next seasons. They were on their way to doing what they were going to do for their next seasons, however, this whole Hand situation put them in different places.

  • Iron Fist has taken the place of Daredevil, in protecting the city, in a suit close to his comic book one.
  • Misty is getting a bionic arm, thanks to Danny
  • Jessica Jones is getting back into becoming a Private Investigator again.
  • Luke Cage is settling back into being the hero of Harlem.
  • Dareveil, well it seems like Elektra saved him and took him to get treated. One of the nuns said to get "Maggie", who is most likely Matt's mother, so Matt will meet his mother and fit back into being Daredevil in season 3.

Looking forward into the  Marvel Netflix slate, the phase 2, we will get Punisher in November, and then next year, Luke Cage season 2, Jessica Jones season 2, and Daredevil season 3. Marvel Netflix phase 3 is all up in the air, as Disney broke away from Netflix, so the seasons after those will probably air on Disney's new platform, or could still air on Netflix.

The post-credit scene of the show is a trailer for the Punisher, that is already online, so you can check it out.

Overall, The Defenders, such a great series, the show does a great way of using so many film techniques to display this team up, this clash of personalities. The casting, the story was so awesome. The Defenders was a perfect length, easy to handle, and it really showed that the extra budget in each episode helped the series in terms of the great quality of content it produced. I will give The Defenders a 9 out of 10. I would really like to hear your thoughts on season 1 of The Defenders, from your favorite or worst characters, scenes, or whatever else. As always thanks for reading, take care.
