STANDALONE JOKER FILM (NOT IN DCEU)
It has been talked about that the Joker is getting a standalone film, not connected to the DC Extended Universe. It is being reported that Todd Philips is partnered with Scott Silver to make a Joker film set in the 80's which is not connected to any other DC continuity.
This is really big news, a Joker stand alone film we will talk about, but it not being in the DCU is a whole other topic.
First, let's talk about the Joker film as its self. It's set in the 80's which will hopefully bring a neat vibe to the film, something we have seen a little bit of in the 1989 film, Batman, which had the Joker. If the film is a solo film, I feel like it is going to be an origin story, which I am not too full on board with. The Joker is more terrifying when you do not know his motivation, what makes him get out of bed a wreck havoc over Gotham. But in saying that, an origin story could make us see why the Joker does what he does, and how horrific and depressing his origin story would have to be if it were seen on screen. So it would be interesting seeing a Joker solo film.
But the whole DCEU deal. I feel like a Joker film would be a film that has been in development for a while, as he is a large character. Warner Bros and DC were most likely going to make a solo Joker film in the DCEU at some point, however, with the response of Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad, plans for the character were most likely rolled back. But in still wanting to make a standalone Joker film, Warner Bros and DC are making it outside of the DCEU, avoiding Jared Leto playing the character.
A lot of people are saying that the DCEU might be getting the plug pulled out. But this is probably not the case. The DCEU will probably be here for a while with Wonder Woman leading it, and having all the other popular, well received IP's within the universe. However, having other characters outside of the DCEU may be a good idea, as films can be set in different time eras, and especially if they were not received well within the DCEU, however, are such a great character.
Anyway, I am excited to see what might happen to this Joker film and the future of the DCEU. I would like to hear your thoughts on it down in the comments section below. As always thanks for reading, take care.
