ARROW "THE LONGBOW HUNTERS" REVIEW

Season 7 Episode 2:

Hey everyone, we are back with a new episode of Arrow directed by Laura Belsey, as we see Oliver surviving in prison, all the while we see the rest of team Arrow assembling. Spoilers ahead for the episode, let's recap.

Diaz's team, the "Longbow Hunters" are in Star City and are after a battery for a weapon of mass destruction. After breaking into a warehouse with Rene and Curtis, Felicity is taken in by John and Argus where she works with Curtis to track down Diaz and his new team. John and his Argus team ego after the battery and encounter Diaz. John makes the decision to take the battery and run away from Diaz.

Meanwhile, Laurel is out searching for Diaz, as Dinah follows her. The two encounter another member of the Long Bow Hunters, named Silencer. The two team up to fight Silencer, as she runs away.  In prison, Oliver approaches Brick to get information on Diaz. Brick tells Oliver to take out a security guard. Oliver and Stanley try to find leverage on the guard to try to get him to leave. Oliver confronts the guard about his family, and Oliver shanks himself, blaming it on the guard, getting rid of him.

In the flashforwards, William and Roy dig up a box on Lian Yu which contains Oliver's bow. The episode ends with Felicity asking Samanda Watson for help.

To start off, this episode was alright in the way that it was pulled off. I enjoyed most of the arches, but I kind of would have liked a better look at the Longbow Hunters, considering that it was the name of the episode. Their powers look slightly interesting, however, there does not feel like too much of a concern of them, and they do not feel like a genuine threat. The characters weren't developed and didn't envoke fear like an ally of Diaz would have.

Dinah and Laurel's arch in the episode was great. Those characters were awesome to see together, because of their arch last season and the theme of forgiveness which is going to be developed later in the season. I hope we see the two teaming up more in the season, and eventually in costume.

Felicity had an interesting arch in the episode. I do like how they are splitting her and John apart because of their objectives. It is creating a more interesting plot with the characters. I am not too overly interested in John's plot, because it seems a little more self-explanatory. Although I am upset that she got rid of the pink hair, Felicity seems like she will have an interesting plot. At the end of the episode I was kind of hoping that she was going to speak to the new Green Arrow, however, she seems like she will be more or less against him or her.

The flashforward scenes in the episode were amazing. I am excited by what is happening with that plot and how that may tie into the present day. Because it stated that Roy in ten, 15 years time would be returning to Star City from reading the note. It may be a note from Oliver telling him to take over the mantle from him in the future, or that could be happening now.

I did like Katie Cassidy in the episode, and I did want to see more of her in the episode because she will hopefully wind up being a larger part in the season, especially if Diaz winds up being the main villain again. The rest of the cast in the episode was great. Starring in the episode we had Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/ Inmate 4587), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), David Ramsey (John Diggle), Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt), Rick Gonzalez (Rene Rameriz), Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), Vinnie Jones (Brick), Michael Jai White (Ben Turner/ Bronze Tiger), Cody Runnels (Derek Sampson), Brendan Fletcher (Stanley), Kirk Acevedo (Ricardo Diaz), Holly Elissa (Red Dart), Michael Jonsson (Kodiak), Miranda Edwards (Silencer), Ben Lewis (William Clayton), and Colton Haynes (Roy Harper/ Arsenal).

In conclusion, this episode of Arrow was an exciting episode, although it could have worked better if the Longbow Hunters were made out to be a strong threat which could last a long season and be as menacing as their comic book counterparts. I did enjoy the scenes with the protagonists, and I enjoyed the way that the show is setting up the flashforwards. I will give this episode a 7.5 out of 10.
