CAPTAIN MARVEL TRAILER BREAKDOWN

After getting the suit reveal images a couple weeks ago, we knew that the trailer for Captain Marvel would be on its way showcasing the latest hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the big screen for the first time. And here we are, with the trailer for the Ryan Boden and Anna Fleck directed Marvel film, Captain Marvel which reveals who Carol Danvers is Nick Fury's past, and a series of other things, so let's get right into it.

The trailer opens up with a crash of a spaceship of some sorts, either a Kree controlled spaceship, or either a Skrull controlled spaceship. Falling from the wreckage is Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in her green Kree suit as she falls into the late Blockbuster video, as those were around in the late 1990's when this film is set.

This scene sets the stage, as it most likely happens at the beginning of the film, as Captain Marvel is not a straightforward origin story, as we see later. This is more of an origin of Carol coming back to Earth and becoming getting the persona.

But speculating about this scene, I am guessing that Carol was on a Kree ship which was shot down by Skrulls, and now they are following her on Earth, setting the plot of the film, and the threat which Carol needs to stop.

Carol Danvers steps into the spotlight, as she wanders through this metro system. I do find that there is a lack of people questioning Carol in her Kree suit, but hey, it was the 90's. I am assuming that soon after this Nicky Fury would find Carol.

In this scene, we hear a monologue from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) where he says "War is a universal language ... It never occurred to me that one might come from above."
This film is also going to act as a Nick Fury origin, as it shows the rise in the ranks at SHIELD and it also shows how Nicky Fury is learning that there are aliens out there. This is setting the bases of the "Pegasus" facility for alien research that we saw at the beginning of the first "Avengers" film in 2012.

It appears that Fury has given Carol access to a SHIELD facility, as she has the cap, and she had her fingers scanned to enter this building. There are a few things which could happen in this facility through the film. I would speculate that in this building there may be a Skrull interrogation, and it is possible that Fury or someone else on Earth creates the red, blue, and gold suit for Carol.

Okay, so here we are with a Skrull who landed on Earth and is being dissected on by SHIELD, as we see Fury on the left there. There appears to be a director or someone above Fury on the left. I can not make it out, however, I am speculating that it may be Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) who is himself a Skrull in disguise. I am curious to see whether this dissection will reveal the Skrull's shapeshifting abilities.

Side note: because of this Skrull experiment, I would also expect to see a Kree to be captured and dissected by SHIELD, as we know that a Kree will end up in SHIELD's possession as its blood was used to help bring Coulson back to life as seen in Agents of SHIELD.

A space shot reveals what I would assume to be a Kree spaceship turning off its stealth mode. The ship looks slightly interesting, it looks almost like a bug, however, its blocky structure almost makes it look like Mjolnir.

In the distance, we can see a Quinjet flying into space. The jet looks similar to what we have seen before in the Avengers and the other films. I am wondering whether or not the stealth mode on this alien ship inspires SHIELD to get the stealth mode on the Hellicarrier in the future, and also the future Quinjets in Agents of SHIELD.

In this scene, the Quinjet could potentially be piloted by Carol. This wouldn't be the jet which landed her in space, as she was not at SHIELD, however, Carol could go meet the Kree in a Quinjet she stole and could queue the final act of the film.

Carol landed in Los Angeles, as seen by the background here, and this is near the beginning of the film as Carol landed on Earth in the green Kree suit, and ended up on this metro. This scene most likely is fighting a Skrull who was disguised as someone on the train. I think I know who, but this is the start to Carol most likely learning that the Skrulls followed her to Earth.

This shot shows a small sense of her powers, such as the power blast. It might be the time of day, but the blast looks a little too transparent. I am assuming that it will be tuned up in post-production more, as everything will be polished up more in the

"Truth be told, I was ready to hang it up before I met you today." After listing all of the perks that come with working at SHIELD, Fury introduces himself to Carol, telling her that she is the reason why he is staying at SHIELD. In the film, Fury will be a low-level agent at SHIELD, not having too much to worry about.

I do like how in this scene, Fury walks up to Carol in the phone booth, acting like he somehow intercepted a call she was having with someone and linked her to the mysterious alien woman.

In the film, Fury will lose his eye, most likely from a Skrull disguising as a person he trusts. The Skrull who portrays him is most likely Talos, who I assume is playing a SHIELD director of some sorts, someone who Fury trusts and works under.

Fury is bonding with Carol in this car, where he attempts to learn more about here. Carol says "I keeping having these memories, I see flashes, I think I had a life here, but I can't tell if it's real."
This confirms that Carol has a sense of amnesia, where she has no well-known memories of anything on Earth.

There have been two times in the comics where Carol loses her memories. One of the times was in the 90's surprisingly enough, when she went under the "Warbird" alias.  In this time Carol was also an alcoholic. The film may take inspiration from this, however, they may not be too down with the alcoholic concept with the character, and take a more optimistic tone with the character.

Carol Danvers was also an air force pilot, and this is her hangar bay which she vaguely remembers. In the film, I assume we will only get the airforce scenes in flashbacks, maybe there will be an extended scene to show how the character was back on Earth, and how she acts now, to create a contrast and show character development.

This shot shows Carol Danvers in her air force pilot uniform, and there is a blue glow coming from her hand. This may be how she gets her powers in the film. I believe that the film will do something similar to the comics in terms of the origin. In the comics, Carol Danvers met Captain Mar-Vel, and the two were caught in an explosion of the "Psyche-Magnetron" which transferred Mar-Vel's Kree DNA into Carol, giving her powers. Mar-Vel is in the film played by Jude Law.

In this shot, the blue may be representing some form of Kree DNA, showing that Carol is getting the abilities of Mar-Vel. I have no clue what planet this is happening on, or what is involved, as there will be changes to the comics origin of the character.

This is the reveal of the classic colored suit of the red, blue, and gold. In this scene, it appears that Carol is has been captured in a Skrull ship I am assuming. The contraption holding her down is most likely to counter her powers, however, with the lasers holding her in place in her head, and legs, it seems like the Kree could potentially be gathered Carol's memories and DNA, potentially to unlock the secret for a Skrull to shapeshift into Carol.

I do have to say that this shot looks awesome, with the contrast of the warmer colors of Carol's suit, and the green and darker toned background.

Here is the super Kree team being lead by Mar-Vel. However, in this shot from left to right we have Att-Lass (Algenis Perez Soto), Carol Danvers, and Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan). Also on this team will be Bron-Char (Rune Temte), and Korath (Djimon Hounsou).

In this scene, it appears that this Kree team will be on a mission, potentially there first in the film. The film will focus on the Kree Skrull war, and since this is a Kree spaced team on their military, they will be going after some Skrulls, potentially Talos, the leader of the Skrulls in this film.

Here is Captain Mar-Vel, the original. In the film he will be more of a mentor to Carol, being the commander of her group which we saw previously. In the film, Mar-Vel will most likely have the enhanced abilities that Captain Marvel will get by the end of the film, as Mar-Vel's DNA is the cause of Carol getting her powers.

Because Mar-Vel is in the film, I am guessing that the hinted at origin of Carol getting her powers will be of the accident which happened involving her, Mar-Vel, and the psyche-magnetron.

This is a shot of how Carol Danvers ends up in space, or at least the initial path of how she gets her powers. In the film, I did guess correctly that when Carol was in an air force mission that she would somehow end up in space. There are a few possibilities, such as casual human abduction, or wormholes.

The abduction part plays off the idea of Star-Lord being abducted as a child, that was because there was a Celestial requesting his presence, that being Ego, who hired the Ravagers to get Quill.
The wormhole idea is more likely. This plays of Age of Ultron and Thor Ragnarok, and how the Hulk got into space from the Avenjet. That was because a wormhole opened up. I am guessing it is the same with Carol.

The Skrulls are here, on Earth in their natural form. In the foreground here is Talos, the main Skrull, the leader, who will be disguising himself as the SHIELD director. In the film, the Skrulls are the main villain with the main conflict being between them and the Kree which Captain Marvel is with.

In the filming of this, the Skrulls are wearing prosthetics, this is not fully CG. I am guessing that the Skrulls with have some CG aspectsd added to their face. One thing that I am curious about is how the Skrulls will transform, what will their transition of shape-shifting look like.

I really do like this scene because of how absurd this is, just Captain Marvel punching an elderly lady on the train. Obviously, this lady is a Skrull, because they are in this film, and she did something to signal to Carol that she is a Skrull.

This shot shows that the Skrulls are an enemy of Captain Marvel and that she wants to prevent any invasion that they may bring in disguise when they come to Earth. This scene also takes place early on in the film, as Carol is in the green Kree suit, and is on the train which we saw her walk past in the second shot, and also on top of later on fighting most likely this old lady Skrull.

On a Kree ship stands Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), back in the MCU since Guardians of the Galaxy. The character in the film will be the commander above Mar-Vel, with someone else working above him. In the film, Ronan will be wielding his hammer and will be a relatively prominent character in the film, being an advocate for the Kree Skrull war.

In this shot, we see Ronan looking over Earth. There could be a couple of things happening in this scene. This could be one of the earlister flashbacks to when Mar-Vel was recruited by the Kree and got his powers.

Here he is, the character who I was most excited to see in this film, Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) going back to the big screen. In the film, Coulson I believe will be a few ranks under Fury, however, working with him at SHIELD, he may be tied with Carol, as in the first Thor film, Coulson didn't seem too phased by the idea of aliens, as that may not have been his first rodeo, this may be.

I do like the idea that Clark Gregg was not aged down too much from what he looks like today to 20 years ago because he looks like he hasn't aged a day.
This film will be important for Coulson as it teases his revival in Agents of SHIELD, with the use of the Kree blood which SHIELD may get in this film.

Fury has his pager ready. This is the same one that he used in the Infinity War post-credit scene to call Carol at the end there. In this film, Fury will set up the pager communication system between himself and Carol for when she leaves. They might use it throughout the film, however, it is more of a set up for Carol learning about what is going on in Avengers 4, and her signal to team up with the Avengers.

Here is the Kree space team in action. Everyone appears to be wearing the blue space breathing masks which we saw in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, not used by the Kree, however, by Star-Lord.

This shot also does show the helmet, something I never thought they would be done. However, here we are with the comic accurate helmets sported by Captain Marvel in this shot here. I do like how her hair sticks up the top, something to add to the costume as when she had the helmet in the comics, she had shorter hair.

When Carol gets the red and blue suit, I am assuming that she will have the helmet because the red and blue suit is most likely just a recoloring of the green suit, so why not recolor the helmet as well. The red helmet we might see in this film, if not, we will most likely see it in Avengers 4.

This shot shows off a close up of the red and blue suit. In this scene, it seems like Carol may be standing off with Mar-Vel who appears to be the person on the left and is blurred out. The story may create a master versus student plot with the two, which the film may lead up to, or this may be just a confrontation between the two who have not seen each other in a while.

"I'm not what you think I am". I am not too sure who Carol is speaking to in this scene. The only part I of this I can make sense of is that it takes place on Earth, most likely after Carol got her powers, as she is hinting to someone that she has special abilities.  I am curious about who Carol is talking to, the only detail is the long, black, curly hair.

This is the money shot of the trailer, showing Captain Marvel going binary, which is her super saiyan mode, where she can tap into the energy of a white hole, giving her a significant boost in her power scale and the energy she can blast.

The shot does look fabulous bringing together a cluster of bright colors. This shot does excite me and gives a taste of not only is to come in the Captain Marvel film, however, Avengers 4 as well, as this binary power will be what she has to use against full gauntlet, Thanos.

It was also revealed that soon after we got the Captain Marvel trailer that the title for the fourth Avengers film would be revealed, so subscribe to get the breakdown of when that is announced in the next couple days or weeks.

Overall, the Captain Marvel trailer is an awesome trailer to show off the film. The way that the film looks is exciting in the way that it is not going to be structured like a regular origin story, and that there will be a series of flashbacks to reveal Carol's past and how that works with the amnesia twist on the charcter. The style of the film looks exciting, especially with the use of color with the red suit, and the look of the Skrulls, and also Coulson is back!
