BATWOMAN TV SERIES ANNOUNCED

Being announced to be a part of the crossover, the CW also announced that a new hero is getting their own show, and that is Batwoman. That is right there is a live action Batwoman tv show which is being developed by Greg Berlanti for the CW is a spin-off from her debut in this year's annual crossover, which I have some news on. Let's discuss all that and more about the Batwoman tv show coming.

To start off, there was some news on who would help bring this series to life. We, of course, have the mastermind of the DCTV universe, Greg Berlanti who is developing the series. Caroline Dries, who worked on the Vampire Diaries, is going to be an executive producer and more importantly and writer on the show. Other executive producers include Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns, who is working everywhere in the DC mediums.

Batwoman in the comics is Kate Kane, who has had a number of origins, like every comic book character. Kane inspired from the Bat himself, suits up as the Batwoman to save the streets of Gotham City.

Batwoman is a lesser known part of the Bat family, however, a part of the Bat-family nevertheless. That means that it is possible that we are getting closer to seeing Batman himself appear, or at least cameo in the DCTV universe. Because there have been mentions of him and the alter ego, Bruce Wayne, however, no appearance. Batwoman from the comics is inspired by Batman to become Batwoman. So in having a full tv series, it seems like we have to have heavy mention of the Bat, rather than a few lines in the crossover. The character is not being used in the films, and she is the only available Bat-family character who isn't in or being prepared to be in the films. So, it may be possible that we have a few references to other characters such as Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin, such as what would happen with Batman as discussed before.

The character does fit into all the boxes that the CW wants for their tv shows, and it seems like the network wants to emphasize their diversity with their LGBTQ vigilante. Having Batwoman in the lead is great to show the diversity that the network has in its lead characters in the shows. This may be part of the reason as to why the character is given a whole series.

THREE WAY CROSSOVER

But now the crossover news. It is revealed that this year it will be a three-episode crossover between Supergirl, Arrow, and the Flash. With the new crossover, it seems like it will start on Sunday with Supergirl, then follow by Arrow on Monday, and conclude with the Flash on Tuesday.
So Legends of Tomorow and Black Lightning are not in the crossover this year.

Black Lightning I sort of see why it's not in the crossover, as its self-contained, potentially on a separate Earth in the multiverse, not on Earth-1. Black Lightning can get a crossover later down the line. With the schedule, Black Lightning is the last show to air out of the DCTV shows on the CW, so it will probably continue to air that week, not interfering with the crossover.

Legends of Tomorrow not being in the crossover is a little disappointing, taking a whole episode out of the crossover. The reason why this is not happening is most likely because the crossover couldn't be stretched out over four hours, and would feel like a drag. The other reason is that there would be too many characters. Legends of Tomorrow itself has a lot of heroes, which kind of feels like a crossover in a way. However, it is possible that the characters from Legends are included in the crossover, just without their own episode, but I sadly doubt that's the case. In terms of the schedule, Legends of Tomorrow will probably skip that first week in December to air.

With the Batwoman tv show announced, there will be six DC shows on the CW alone. That's not including anything like Titans, Lucifer, or Gotham. That is definitely too many tv shows of the same source to be on the same network simultaneously. What I am suggesting here is that Batwoman is a backup show for any of the shows which don't get another season. When Arrow goes off the air in the next few years, Batwoman will be an ideal substitute. The character and the setting of what will presumably be Gotham will fit in the darker, grittier tone that Arrow subsides to at the moment. Black Lightning does stay on a similar tone, however, it has a few lighter moments, and the family aspect which the other shows, most likely including Batwoman, does not or will not have.

In conclusion, the Batwoman tv series being developed does excite to see what can be done with this character who hasn't received much attention in any Batman films, or tv shows. I am excited to see how the character works out in the crossover this year. Sad that Black Lightning or the Legends won't meet her yet. However, she has her own series, and that leaves plenty more room for crossover.
