STAR WARS THE LAST JEDI NON SPOILER REVIEW
It is time for a new Star Wars movie and we are here with Star Wars: The Last Jedi to review. This is a non-spoiler review, so if you have not seen the film, you can read this review. I will have a spoiler-filled review as well as a bunch of Last Jedi content coming soon, so click the subscribe button above to get that.
Coming straight from the theater of watching The Last Jedi, the film will leave an impressional mark on your head. For me the impression the film was great, I absolutely loved watching this film. That was due to a number of reasons, from the overall plot of the film to the characters and their interactions. To go through these positives, the plot as a whole, well it can be divided into two parts, splitting the characters into two groups. Both plots held an interesting story as they were intended. There was the primary plot which was a little more interesting, however, I still felt invested in both plots.
The characters in the film are a mix of returning characters from the Force Awakens, the Original Trilogy and some new characters in the film. The characters were split for the plots of the film, but the characters that each individual interacts with, suited the film and how the plot progressed as well as the development of the tone. The characters of film honestly worked so well on screen because of the actors, and all the talent that brought these characters to life. From the way that the actors portrayed characters got me as an audience member invested in their story, in their fate. My personal favorite character of the film I will not name hear because this character is considered a heavy spoiler, but if you have seen the film you will know who I'm talking about.
In the film, there are some breathtaking visual scenes which look spectacular, from the way they were shot to the coloring within those shots. There are amazing shots scattered throughout the film, shots which acted as metaphors for character's journeys, and it shows the effort put in behind the scenes of the film. The music in the film, like all Star Wars films bring the goosebumps. For me, that did not take long for happen, as soon as the opening crawl started with the loud "BAM!" I got goosebumps, and that did not stop there.
The Last Jedi like all films is not a perfect film by any means. There are a few flaws in the film. One of the ones that I had, and you may have is the runtime. The runtime of this film is two hours and 33 minutes, placing this as the longest Star Wars film yet. The film does feel like it drags out in a few areas, from simple camera shots. The part of the film that this does feel like it happens is the middle, especially the middle. When I was watching the film, I thought that things might be wrapping up but then I remembered "Oh wait, that trailer scene.", and I was thrown off guard a bit in terms of the how long this film goes on for. But in saying that, this film probably does not feel as long as some of the prequels. There were some odd choices for humor in the film, which did shift the tone of the film in a way whcich at times took me out of the film.
Anyway, although it has its flaws, Star Wars the Last Jedi is a masterful addition to the Star Wars universe as the film delivers a plot twisting and intense story and wonderous character development with some great film techniques. Rian Jhonson, the director of Star Wars the Last Jedi, did an incredible job handling a project of this scale. I would definitely recommend seeing Star Wars the Last Jedi in theaters because this feels like a film for the ages. Later on this weekend the spoiler review for Star Wars the Last Jedi as well as some discussions on characters and their journeys in the film and their future. But until then, thanks for reading, and may the force be with you ... always.
