AGENTS OF SHIELD "A LIFE SPENT" REVIEW
Season 5 Episode 3:
Hey, everyone, we are returning with a new episode of Agents of SHIELD where we see the space future story arc. Spoilers ahead for the episode, let's do a quick recap and then review the episode.
In the episode, Tess, Coulson, Mack, and May take a spaceship to go seek out a large chunk of the shattered Earth, however, they are monitored by their boss, Grill's bodyguard, Zev. After a fight with Zev, the team finds a radio signal from the chunk of Earth and attempt to travel to it, however, they are running low on fuel and head back.
Meanwhile, Yoyo uses her powers to get a hold of some gear that Daisy needs to find Simmons. We catch up with Simmons who we see is under the influence of the Kree leader, Kasius, and she is told that she has to train an Inhuman girl, Abby, to fight in front of his gues; or Abby will be killed with her family. Simmons teaches Abby how to use her phasing powers. When Abby has to fight, she starts to lose to the other fighter but manages to pull through and Abby kills the opponent. Simmons learns that Kasius is selling Abby to the guest as Simmons learns that Inhuman trafficking is a common thing in the future. Daisy searches more for Simmons, however, is captured by Kasius as he was informed by Deke.
The episode ends with the season four finale post-credit scene where we see Coulson wake up and say "time to get to work", but then we see Coulson with the team programming some stuff for their eventual escape. We then cut to Zev who was framed for having a gun, dumped on the future Earth and being attacked by the monsters which roam it.
This episode was an overall entertaining episode which showed us how the Agents are dealing with their displacement in time. One of the coolest scenes in the episode was the Yoyo running scene, they are always a pleasure to see play out on screen as they look awesome. It would be awesome if they were done more in the show, but I do understand that the show is on a tv budget.
The plot's in the episode are interesting. They did get a little boring at times. However, out of both storyline's in the episode, the exploration plot was the most interesting as it gets into the mysteries that surround the season. In the episode, there were plenty of shot outs to the multiverse. Deke called out the multiverse by name and a piece of Earth is labeled "616" which is a hint to the multiverse where the main stories take place in the Marvel comics. You can also call the MCU the 616 universe if you want to believe that all Marvel films take place in the same continuity and they are connected via multiverse.
The cast of the episode was great, we had Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), Henry Simmons (Mack Mackenzie), Eve Harlow (Tess), Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Yoyo Rodriguez), Jeff Ward (Deke), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Ciara Bravo (Abby), and Dominic Rains (Kasius).
Overall, "A Life Spent" is an alright episode in the season, although it slows down at times it keeps me interested in the story with the suspense build up and the great acting from the cast. I will give this episode of Agents of SHIELD an 8 out of 10. Please comment on your thoughts on the episode, and as always, thanks for reading, take care.
